What a talent, beautiful music, Mike Lindup has returned!, 7 Nov 2003
I've been a fan of Mike Lindup since 1984 when I discovered Level 42. It's fair to say I'm a big Level 42 and this motivated me to buy this album, just like I did Mike's first solo album 'Changes'. I have not been disappointed and I would gladly pay the weigh of this album in gold to enable me to hear this album - it's fabulous.I was very luck to attend Mike's very small concert at the Ealing Broadway Jazz Festival in 2000 (I think) when I first heard some of these tracks, and it's been a long, long wait to see the finished product, but it has been worth the wait. I saw 'Changes' could be seen as a bit main stream and commercial, but equally fantastic, however 'Conversations with Silence' is a true expression of musical talent and passion. There is no singing on the album, which will be a shock to some, as Mike has a wonderful voice, but I believe the truly emotional and inspiration piano genius shows through and delivers an amazing experience. Track 1 (Sunshine and Showers) sets the theme beautifully, the Theme, Variations (1, 2 and 3) and Finale - tracks 5 to 9 are creative, dramatic and powerful. But it's track 4 - Beautiful one that has me in tears every time. The album is packed with 15 tracks of wonderful music. I advise a glass of wine, subtle lighting and the hifi on loud - you are in for a real treat. Mike Lindup is so much more that 'the keyboardist from Level 42', he is a kind, gentle and immensely talented man. Thank you Mike for the musically gift of 'Conversations with Silence'.
