Pathetic attempt at documenting England's great moment, 12 Dec 2003
I have now watched this a couple of times and I keep putting the DVD back in to see if I have been stupid and they really make that much of a mess of this. No, I was right, its woefully inadequate. I can only guess that this rubbish has been edited by either an Aussie or Frenchman, because the sheer number of missing bits you would want (indeed EXPECT!) to see in the official IRB review are countless. Its clearly not cut with the England fans in mind. There are official versions of this with apparent extra footage of the other home nations - whoopee! Shame England (THE WINNERS) didnt get the same priviledge! This DVD is 135 minutes long, and yet coverage of the final runs for about 5 minutes. To give you an example of how stupid it is, you don't even get to see all 3 Aussie pressure penalties in the 2nd half (not something I am gonna lose any sleep over, but I hope you get my point as to how pathetic it is). They just brush over the 2nd penalty and pick up the action as if it never even happened! Then, in this (135 minute) DVD, for THAT drop goal, you dont even get to see the 60-odd section of play from the line out that led to it! They actually pick up action from Dawson's burst! Its like watching it on the news. Countless other little bits are missing that would have made this so much better....... Dallaglio balling like a baby in the National Anthem, Neil Back's daughter kissing the cup, the Aussie PM presenting the medals with a face like a smacked bum. Etc etc. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am with this nonsense. I am sure ITV will do their own version of a World Cup overview and I imagine it will be on TV over Christmas. I hope its a lot better than this nonsense. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING.
