Well, at last. Series 2 on one disc instead of 3 episodes per DVD. After the huge success of series 1, we were delighted that series 2 would be made to continue the story of Craiglang's OAP community. This series has too many classic moments to list but it's not just the comedy which makes this show so widely watched and appreciated. 99% of the issues tackled in Still Game are true to life and generally things we assosiate with the older generation. For example, lonliness, poor pensions, being bullied by young folk and loan sharks exploiting the community. While these are serious, true to life topics, they are dealt with in such a way that the viewer can be emotionally moved one minute then laughing out loud the next. Another plus regarding this show is (unlike it hilarious predecessor Chewin the Fat), it is very mature and people of all ages can watch and laugh at the same jokes. I found that in Chewin The Fat, a lot of the jokes my mum didn't get or didn't like. Still Game is a favourite with all of my family. The characters are created to have their flaws, but it makes them all the more likeable. Whether it is naiviety (Victor regarding his son), Scrooge with money (Tam), the determination to swindle the DSS (Winston) or Jack, who is always thinking about Victor which in the final eisode of the series, causes problems between to two. The acting is really second to none, in my opinion. The actors are so good in their parts it is the final factor which makes the viewer believe they are real pensioners being filmed, not actors. Looking at the four main guys, it's hard to believe that they are all only in their 30s and not 70s. It's great that Still game is now being shown in the UK and not just Scotland because it doesn't get as much recognition as it deserves. From all angles, this is a first class show and one of the few bright spots of TV at the moment.
