i was sat down with a few friends listening to roxy music's wonderful 'for your pleasure' album recently bemoaning the fact that no musicians seem to have any imagination anymore.

i was wrong. this is wonderful. an unholy amalgam of erik satie, the incredible string band, japan and the beatles (circa the white album) this record shows more verve, skill and imagination in it's first track 'insane overdrive' than the likes of the libertines, oasis et al will show in their whole 'career'.

seriously, if you're looking for something to stretch your inner eye right out buy this album and keep on constant play.

it'd be a crying shame if this album was only heard by those in the know...

Due to poor distribution by the band's label, I waited 5 weeks for my order to arrive (should have used Amazon). The previous album "Time is of the Essence" is one my favourites of the last few years, and expectations were running high. Unfortunately, the new album was not worth the wait; it fails to reach the same high standards although all the trademarks are there. It is a real bag of spanners: every track but two is smeared with lyrics which border on the inane and are delivered weakly. For every good idea there is a lazy cliche and it fails to weave the delicious classical atmospheres of its predecessor. If you were tempted to buy this, try "Essence" first. This is one for the Ft Lauderdale completist only (and I'm sorry to say, on this evidence there will be a diminishing number of them). Shame.
