Product Description

CD Description

In ye olde days of the 1980s, true metalheads hoping to catch videos of their favourite bands had to stay up late for the original HEADBANGERS BALL, MTV's bastion of all things long-haired, leather-clad, and too heavy for the network's regular rotation. In the new millennium, when extreme metal of every sort reached the mainstream on a weekly basis, the faithful ironically still turned to HEADBANGERS BALL, this timeon MTV's music-intensive--and, oddly enough, less popular--sister network MTV2.
As the title suggests, MTV2 HEADBANGERS BALL collects the program's best moments, which range from the chart topping alt-rock metal of Staind (here represented by "Price to Play", the first single from 12 SHADES OF GREY) to lesser known, far more demanding fare such as Unearth's pile-driving "Endless". The two-disc set even gives a nod to a few of metal's most influential pioneers, Anthrax andSlayer (the latter contributes an absolutely ferocious liveversion of the classic speed metal anthem "Raining Blood"),acknowledging both the roots of the genre and the artists that made the original HEADBANGERS BALL so compelling.

4.0 out of 5 stars Disc 2 takes it away, 16 Feb 2004
We had to wait a long long time for this record to come out in the open.countless touring by the band...shoots...promos..etc etc and it finally pops out.i'd say its a pretty decent effort by mtv2, sony and roadrunner.Speaking about the discs.....pretty neat i'd say but some of the songs did'nt really deserve to be on the disc itself for example Slayer's "raining blood".its taken from their new live dvd, "war at the warfield".come on guys we've heard the song a million times over the last 20 odd years...be it live or not.another one would be Soil's "pride".what the fuck were they thinking?i dont have anything against soil but the song sounds fucking stupid.Disc 1 would sound like a real letdown to some people including myself.but there are some songs which start growing on you.some would be "straight out of line" by godsmack. The band has grown and their new drummer sound pretty good.Hatebreed....one of my favourite bands....if hardcore has a face, it has to be this one."this is now" may not be one of their best songs but its pretty tight i'd say.bands like stonesour,static-X,Mudvayne,ill nino put in a decent mix on hardcore, nu-age, electro and math.
Disc one gives a proper dose of new age in general.Disc2(\\mm//)is more to my liking. It starts off with a bastard of a Death-metal track...its called "ruin" puked out by an american death band called "lamb of god".they've been my favourite non commercial band for quite some time now.The opening riff starts grinding into ur brain...turning it into slush.you think it is just another metal band...5 seconds...10 seconds...and then Randy blythe screams like a rabid maniac tearing through ur ears and then the growling.though its just another guy yelling out death vocals, he sounds very different.one of my favourite vocalists.next up is arch enemy's "we will rise" believe it or not the vocalist is a woman....yes i know some of you guys must have heard it a million times but nobody growls like she does.the track is pretty uptempo and going...nice solos to end it.amazing work on the double bass.then come the inflames number...trademark inflames basslines etc etc.then the chimara and eighteen visions tracks.i was at home listening to the eighteen visions track get over...i was waiting for the lacuna number and suddenly a frocking techno-trance tone comes out and scares the big Jesus out of me...then the draggy guitars come down along with keyboards..and then the sexy christina sings almost giving me an erection. The disc gets heavier on side-b not to the liking of many people but if ur wierd like iam...you'll love the entire disc2.
Some of the highlights of the album would be the tempo changes on "ruin"..the math metal ballad "world so cold", strapping young lad's "relentless", cradle's "mannequin" and mesuggah's "rational gaze".this may not be the best cd set on earth but close.
