Product Description

Product Description

Dance: UK features the largest collection of licensed music ever to appear in a dancing game. Tracks include chart-topping hits from Mis-Teeq, Sugababes, DJ Sammi, Junior Senior and Oliver Cheatham ft Room 5. The game features a range of play modes and three difficulty levels from beginner to expert; the dance routines have been professionally choreographed by graduates from the Royal Academy of Dance and have been designed to exploit the new eight-way dance mat to give a more fluid feel. A revolutionary dance-step indicator allows the player's eyes to focus on a single point rather than relying on peripheral vision.

Competitive head-to-head modes allow players to compete against each other. Two players can battle against each other in a dance-off. Extra points are awarded for accuracy and score multipliers applied for performing certain combinations. An innovative handicap system allows players with two left feet to compete against seasoned groovers. And for the ultimate party experience Dance: UK can be set to a consecutive multiplayer mode in which up to eight players can dance using one or two mats.

As well as the competitive modes, Dance: UK also includes an aerobics mode that allows players to see how much energy they're burning and a Juke Box mode in which any difficulty level and any track can be chosen and practised. With the Dance: UK Wireless Karaoke Microphone, players can sing along with the songs and hear their own voices over the game soundtrack via the TV or separate speakers.

To get the most out of the game's eight-way dance features, the Dance: UK eight-way dance mat is recommended, though the game is compatible with all PS2/PSone dance mats.

2.0 out of 5 stars Tries to beat Dancing Stage but fails, 14 Mar 2004
By C. C. Williams - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I may be a bloke in my mid-thirties, but that doesn't mean that I don't like dance mat games. When I bought a Playstation 2 I also bought this game and the corresponding dance mat to go with it so that I could play on it with my daughter, who is the more typical audience for this type of game. Choosing 'Dance UK' turned out to be a mistake as it has a number of quite severe flaws.

The first is the control method. The developers of 'Dance UK' have attempted to differentiate it from the various 'Dancing Stage' games so that instead of having arrows moving up the screen you have arrows radiating from a central point. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to judge when it is time to make a step as it is hard to judge the speed of the arrows. The severest flaw, however, is the badly judged difficulty level. Even on easiest setting, the game is so hard that it instantly turned off my daughter and her friends. The lacklustre visuals round off an all-round indiffernt package. On the plus side, there are plenty of licensed songs and many of them are very good. But on the minus side, the many game-specific tracks are anonymous rave numbers which are completely unmemorable. If you buy the corresponding microphone, the game offers a karaoke function. Personally, I think I'll save my money and wait for 'Singstar' to come out.

It's sad to say, but I really can't recommend 'Dance UK' to anyone. There are much better dacing games available for the PS2 from 'Dancing Stage Megamix' to 'Eyetoy Groove'. Indeed, the old 'Dancing Stage' PS1 games are far more enjoyable as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars How Fast?, 15 Oct 2003
By A Customer
I'll give Dance UK its credit - the songs are great and also full length tracks.

The only problem is those arrows!

Too fast too many and what's all this with three appearing at once - last time I checked I only had 2 feet! I can only suppose I need to use a hand?

It would be good if the system had just a 4 way mode so you could dance to the faster songs without giving yourself a hernia. I guess if you were only 8 it might be easier but for those of us more mature dance matters (who dont like spending a fortune on the gym) even easy level is, well, not easy! I daren't try any higher level for fear of tying my legs in knots....

3.0 out of 5 stars Read my review!!! Hehe., 19 Jan 2004
Ah,I remember all those years ago when a dancing stage first appeared in arcades around Britain. I even remember my first time on one! The second i was on it, i thought "I want one!" and as soon as they were available to buy for your Playstation i bought one. After many months of playing i eventually decided i should opt for a change, something different, more advanced. That was when i bought Dance UK,along with the official dance mat.
The first thing i noticed about this game is its like no other dancing game. If you're looking for a game like Konami's "Dancing Stage Party Mix" then you will be disappointed. They have the same level design, music is played, arrows appear and you must step on the arrows on the mat (or use the controller) in time in order to pass a level. The music on this game is quite good, songs include "Sugar Babes-Round Round" "Junior Senior-Everybody" "Daniel Beddingfield-Gotta Get Thru This" and many more recent (and some dated) songs from British artists. There is also a karaoke sing along feature which is quite fun, although to get the most out of it you need the wireless microhphone which is sold separatly. The gameplay is short lived, once you have played through a few levels (or lost, like me) you will find it boring and tiresome to keep playing. When i first played Dance UK i found it VERY difficult to finish even the easiest levels, there are 8 arrows, not 4 like on most dance games and it does get quite confusing. Also the arrows come very fast, this wouldnt bother me if it was like this just on the harder level but its on the easy level too. If you find older dance games too easy then this would be good challenge but if you are buying this for a young child or somebody who has never set foot on a dance mat before,i would say leave it and go for an earlier game.

If you are thinking of buying this game,i would buy the official dance mat with it,because using the controller to do the i had no problems with the mat,its sturdy, doesnt slip around much and you can even turn the volume up with it (useful if you love a particular song and wanna blast out your room with it!) plus its specially designed for the game.

Thanks for reading!!! :-)
