5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and uplifting, 22 Jan 2004

This is one of those CDs which takes a couple of listenings before you start to fully appreciate its brilliance. It's not difficult to describe its overall character - wistful, gentle, frail and beautiful, but it's much harder to communicate the balance between Karen Peris' evocative vocals and the delicate instrumentation, which is always perfectly judged to provide an exquisite complement. I marvel at it every time I listen to this album. Rarely have I heard a track, let alone a full album, which manages to pull this balance off so well. It's quite gorgeous, and I urge you to buy it if you value true beauty in music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Befriending Spirit Itself, 11 April 2004

With some artists, you just get lucky. I'm talking about those great albums that came across by coincidence or some lost good friend. It was a small act of grace that have me meet this wonderful music. The "Mission"s are a married couple and their best friend, all deeply Christian, writing and singing some gorgeous harmonies over touching folk ballads, many about being married and having children. Either you get the drift of how great this is or you may need to listen to it once, at which point, you'll be converted to their beauty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply gorgeous, 11 Jul 2004
I found this album purely by chance, but fate must have smiled on me that day. It's a star from beginning to end, packed with swooning, fabulous songs which make you hit the repeat button - repeatedly! Karen Peris's voice is childlike and pure as a bell. Not the irritating vapid squeak found on various other albums featuring female vocalists, but evocative and sometimes almost eerie. I bought their back catalogue on the strength of this CD and I wasn't disappointed in any of their previous work either. Go on, put 'Befriended' in your shopping cart while you can. You won't regret it.
