I'm familiar with these quartets and this is the first time I've heard them played on 'period' instruments. The Quatour Mosaiques produce quite a sweet tone, with a distinct lack of vibrato. The performances are more measured than most modern instrument groups but they do not lack energy, though the third movement of the first quartet (track 11 on the disc) feels a little laboured.

Using less vibrato allows the music to shine through, and to my mind the results sound very good indeed.

There is some audible breathing on the recording but unless you use headphones it isn't too distracting.
