4.0 out of 5 stars REAL jolly lot, but set quality is not too high, 10 Feb 2004
Much was already said about the story itself, so I'll just add on a few technical details. The picture quality is quite low - obviously, no remastering was made, and the quality is much similar to that of VHS - with lots of noise and quite dimmy colors. Looks like this Granada company is just plain copying VHS to digital (they did the same with Sherlock Holmes series, and the R1 release is WAY better in terms of picture quality, probably the R1 Jeeves & Wooster megaset is also better). The sound is 2.0, but this does not really matter, as it is more about the story, than about how it sounds :-)
And what's most embarassing - no subtitles! And this set DOES require them - hey, we're not all native English out there, and some visual help would be much appreciated, as the language can be quite brainswarming :-).
But overall, quite a nice set.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic translation of Wodehouse's for the small screen, 20 Jan 2004
Jeeves and Wooster are the roles that Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie were born to play. When you combine this with the strength of the supporting cast and the genius of Wodehouse's original work you have a fabulous piece of entertainment.

The interplay between the well-meaning but naive toff and his fearsomely intelligent Gentleman's Gentleman is a delight. What with Bertie Wooster having a planning horizon that falls short of his next cocktail, the perpetual worry of being married to precisely the wrong sort of girl, interfering aunts and the petty ambitions of all kinds rum coves, Jeeves' grey matter barely gets a minute's peace.

Mix yourself a drink with a bit of fizz and ginger, settle down and prepared to be very, very amused.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Topping Wheeze!, 11 Aug 2004
I love this series, and the box set is excellent value. The first episode shows the first meeting of the duo and from then on in it is great fun, in a very innocent way. Hugh Laurie plays his now-famous 'lovable fool' role, and Stephen Fry is superbly cast as Jeeves. All the plots revolve around Wooster trying to avoid marriage.
I admit the latter episodes seem to repeat some plot lines, but much of the magic is in the detail of the period: no doubt rose-tinted, but nonetheless beautiful.
Buy this and treat yourself to sheer enjoyment of the locations, detail and most of all the wonderful dialogues and wordplay.
