5.0 out of 5 stars Best UK Rock Album since the 1970's, 27 Jan 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Amplifier (Audio CD)
I heard of Amplifier through the musicians channel and the single Neon. Their debut album is the best since Radioheads 'Ok Computer'. Lots of great bands out there but few great albums. With Zeppelin style drumming, Pink Floyd style trippyness, beautiful and varied songs. Also Hendrix big muff & other fx driven guitar, and a great voice really similar to Grant Nicholas from Feeder (this is the band Feeder should have been). Reminds me of Smashing Pumpkins Live circa Mellancollie (what a great combination of bands!).

If you like stuff like Oceansize and Porcupine Tree you will love Amplifier. Maybe their current low profile is the result of boyband metal and punk being the in thing now for teenagers. They deserve to be huge...they could do a Dark Side of the Moon next im sure!.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Strong debut album, 8 Jun 2007

I heard of this group on a discussion forum so I thought I would chance a tenner and buy the album. I put it on and my first impressions were so so mainly perhaps because I was listening to it in my office whilst working. I did think well maybe there is something here, so I decided to put it in my car's auto-changer and I was blown away by the group's sound and I was astonished by the sound 3 people in a group could make. Although of different genres it was like hearing the Jam in the 1970's and been astonished by the wall of sound they laid down. But this is a different genre and it was like hearing a 3 man Pink Floyd or Yes with emphasis on the former. In fact my favourite track on this album "One Great Summer" is very Floydish.

Definitely worth a listen And I expect further great things from this band

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best rock debuts. EVER!!!, 28 Jun 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Amplifier (Audio CD)
This is one of those very rare beasts; an album with absolutely no weak tracks. From the opening feedback of Motorhead to the epic last few bars of UFOs, listening to this album is an amazing experience.

It's hard to pigeonhole Amplifier. I hear elements of classic rock, like Cream and Mountain, whilst others think of Jethro Tull.

It is criminal that this band have remained such an unknown they deserve to be huge.
