I did not actually buy this DVD from Amazon, but it was bought for me as a present. It is excellent. The show has some fantastic performances. The interviews are interesting, and bio's are always good. I would have given it five stars had the guitar lesson feature been longer and more indepth.

Overall, a very enjoyable DVD.

Loved it - no need for long rambling praise - just go out and buy it, enjoy it and you'll see why its so highly recommended by so many people. brilliant.

First off I should say that I am or have been a huge fan of 3 out of these 4 guitarists,
so I had really high expectations of this DVD. Martin Tayler is one of the most
technically gifted Jazz guitarists alive today, and whilst he occasionally trades
musicality for speed and dexterity, he is an inspirational player! Martin
Simpson is probably my favourite player of traditional music - his style is rolling
and sounds effortless, yet at times the complexity of his technique would put even the
best guitarists to the test. He also plays completely in his own style.

Juan Martin is the best of the bunch for my money, although almost certainly the least
well known generally - he is very possibly the finest Flamenco guitarist in the world,
and it is no exaggeration to say that his musical flair and flawless technique are simply
stunning to behold - he provides more than half of the jaw-dropping moments on this DVD
on his own.

But overall I was a bit underwhelmed after watching this show - all the players here
(including the less virtuosic but still fantastic Martin Carthy) are world class, but the
performances aren't that wonderful on the whole, and more frustratingly, by far the best
moments are those where each guitarist plays alone, rather than the group numbers, where
things often end up sounding overcrowded and almost amateur. Ultimately, the 4 players
share a stage, but not a common goal or musical understanding, so they never really play
together as a unit.

There are plenty of very impressive performances here though, and its not a waste of time
by any means - Juan Martin plays a stunning Flamenco solo piece - "Rumba Nostalgica and
La Feria" which is my highlight without doubt. Martin Carthy's "Heather Down The Moor"
is an atmospheric and surprisingly powerful piece. Martin Tayler plays with customary
skill, and any guitarist will be amazed by his technique, although musically these are
not his best efforts. Martin Simpson has a style all his own, and for this alone his
performances are intriguing - any fingerstyle players in need of new ideas will get
plenty from Mr Simpson.

So, to sum up my opinions, this DVD offers a combination of sounds and styles that you
won't find anywhere else, and its really very interesting and sometimes inspiring, but
honestly, and I say this as the owner of 13 albums by these 4 players, you can find far
better examples of their playing elsewhere. On the other hand, if you haven't heard
anything by these excellent players, then perhaps this is a fairly good place to start.
