5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal insight into Icelandic singer's quirky motives, 2 Dec 2003
By Jasminetea (London, UK) - See all my reviews
When Bjork is on screen describing what the video clip for her song "Isobel" really means, you can't help but realise just how insane this quirky Icelandic singer really is. The clip is about a lonely girl training moths to fly small aeroplanes which will fly in our faces and snap us out of the rat-race trance we've got ourselves into. No, you don't find out anything about Bjork's personal life in this official documentary, but you do find out that Iceland's "volanic beats" and harsh landscape have indelibly influenced the way she plays music. You also find out how important the wonderful, playful artwork and costumes which accompany her songs actually are. Bjork is keen to carve out an individual meaning to define her native Iceland despite having lived in other big cities, and that's why so many people love her - she is doing something so different to other manufactured artists. If she didn't sell records, you just know she'd still be doing what she'd be doing.
Coupled with clips of her biggest hits and interviews with big name artists like Elton John, Thom Yorke and much more, this is as much a tribute to Bjork's genius as it is an insight into the wanderings of her creative brain.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must-have that leaves you still not knowing her, 5 Sep 2003
By A Customer
This is a must-have for anybody interested Björk's unique music. It covers her career from the childhood in Iceland to the present, focusing on the music and on the thoughts, feelings, and stories behind each of her solo albums. However, the documentary provides very little insight into her personal life, and leaves you with the feeling that you still don't understand or know her.
