Like many I have found Metric by a round about route. In my case this was the slow process of realising the wealth of Canadian indie.
Arcade Fire > Stars > Broken Social Scene > Metric.

Metric have borrowed more obviously from the 1980s tradition and it works well in tracks such as IOU and Succexy, but Emily Hanes vocals take it all to a new level. Other stand out tracks on 'Old World Underground, Where Are You Now' include:
'Calculation Theme'. This is more electronic and reminiscent of Stars; Emily sounds very like Amy Millan on this track and it is not so surprising as both bring their vocals to 'Broken Social Scene' (BSS) and Emily provided the vocals to the song 'Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl' on the BSS album 'You Forgot It In People'.
'On A Slow Night' is quite different again, as is 'Dead Disco', and both are very clever songs. I've deliberately avoided reviewing the tracks everyone else has mentioned, not because they aren't good but to emphasise that this is an ALBUM of good songs. Metric release their new album "Live It Out" and BSS release the album 'Broken Social Scene' on October 4th, both initially available only on import in the UK.

Although the whole of this album is wonderful, and I like every song apart from 'On a slow night', I am surprised that so far everyone has failed to mention what I think is undoubtedly one of Metric's best songs - 'Hustle Rose'. Maybe it's just my taste in music, but this song sounds absolutely amazing when turned up loud on your mp3 and you can just relax and let it carry you away.
Other favourites include 'Calculation Theme', 'Succexy' and 'The List'.
If you have Metric's latest release, 'Live it Out', buy this immediately, if not, buy it anyway!

Extremely underrated and extremely likable. I stumbled upon metric by accident. I heard combat baby on the radio and I was immediately attracted to the mix of electronica/pop that this band pulled off so well. >LISTEN to them. You'll not be disappointed. Most songs are very easy flowing and smooth..some are dance-along songs and others are indie.
