Manufacturer's Description

Two years ago in the sleepy town of Ashcroft a supernatural evil was destroyed by four hunters. Since then the town has been slowly trying to return to a normal lifestyle. Following the horror and destruction, the events of two years ago were quickly forgotten. Until now... A cult has formed in Ashcroft; it had remained hidden until two hunters, following various leads, arrived in Ashcroft to uncover the growing presence of malice. Overpowered by agents of the cult, the hunters disappeared, and a dreadful looming silence settled over the town of Ashcroft. Now, once again the four hunters who saved Ashcroft from destruction two years past have returned, summoned by a message... Hunter: The Reckoning Wayward takes place two years after the original Hunter: The Reckoning story in Ashcroft. The four original hunters return to Ashcroft after receiving a message from another hunter who has been investigating strange events that have been occurring in the small town. The hunters arrive and find that their contact has vanished, leaving no trace. Soon enough, the four hunters realize that evil has once again returned to Ashcroft, and that they are its only hope for salvation. In this 3rd person action shooter set in the fantasy world of White Wolf role-playing, players act as human monster-hunters protecting and defending lives of the innocent. One to two players choose from five playable hunters, each possessing a vast array of weapons, edges (spells), and supernatural abilities. Players can expect the same non-stop action, outstanding graphics, and authentic White Wolf storyline that makes the Hunter: The Reckoning franchise so successful and addictive. With a mysterious and highly dangerous new character joining the original Hunter team, and with new environments and weapons, players are armed to battle creatures of the dead in order to fulfill their mission to fight evil. Let the hunt begin.

3.0 out of 5 stars An average hack-and-slash adventure., 4 Jun 2004
This is your average hack-and-slash adventure. If you enjoy slashing your way through hoards of monsters from one end of a game to the other, then this is the game for you.

A company known as Genefex has set up work in Ashcroft and unfortunately turned the town into a hideous monstrous haven for creatures of the undead. It is up to you and up to three other friends to take charge of, one of 5 hunters to wipe the dirt out of Ashcroft.

Each of the Hunter's posses a wide range of close combat moves along with magical powers known as "Edges". There are three or four edge powers you can gain which are considerably more powerful than close or ranged attacks. Through killing creatures or by searching the area, you can find a number of weapons to use at your disposal. Weapons include shotguns, rocket launchers, flamethrowers automatic machine guns etc. Each character is also in possession of a ranged weapon with unlimited ammo, though it is considerably weaker to other ranged weapons. You can find upgrades to your gun that includes paralytic, fire, poison or even holy ammo. The more you use a particular attack, the more experience you will gain in that field, and then eventually increase in level. This leads to advanced upgrades or better and longer magical attacks or increased melee attacks. This encourages you to attack with different combos.

Music is alright though at times it does not really match the action. Voice acting is good though throughout the game.

Graphics are between alright and good. The creatures look good especially the bosses. They are well created and imaginative. One problem arises though. You eventually feel that you are fighting the same type of creature again and again throughout the game, whether they are zombies or humans, with a few larger or smaller creatures added.

The quality with this game is the multiplayer side. It is a lot more enjoyable to play along side a friend throughout the game.

Controls are easy to master as much of the time will be spent on bashing the attack buttons.

Overall the game will not take that long to complete. It would have been nicer for a few more detailed levels.

Throughout the game you can pick up special cards from which you can replay levels and play as the creatures you were fighting. This adds some replay ability.

GRAPHICS: 7/10
Graphics are good, especially the bosses, which are creative and imaginative.

SOUND: 7/10
Music is alright, though it sometimes does not match the action. Voice acting is good throughout the game.

GAMEPLAY: 7/10
Gameplay feels slightly repetitive though the boss battles keep you going. A lot more fun with friends though.

The good points:

*Good voice acting.
*Imaginative bosses.
*Multiplayer.
*Nice range of edges and weapons.
*Ability to play as the creatures themselves.

The bad points:

*Feels repetitive.
*Too many of one type of creature throughout the game.
*Not a long game.
*Music does not match the action at times.

OVERALL RESULT:
7/10

4.0 out of 5 stars A slash'em up for all gamers, 8 Feb 2004
If you like slash'em ups or the feeling of being able to kill loads of enemies with just one character then this is the game for you!!

Out of all the Hunter games this is top of the table. It has plenty of cool weapons extra conviction abilities and generally more of everything. It is not the longest game but it makes up for it with the option to import and export your beefed up characters. So you can play it at home, pop round to your mates and play it with him/her with your more experienced character. (This also means you dont have to start a fresh each time you want to go through the game)

As you increase you characters skill levels your weapons get better and bigger. For example knives will appear on the end of pistols and your melee weapons get bigger allowing you hit more enemies in one strike.

There is also a nice variation in missions and things to unlock + plenty of things to kill.

All in all this game is worth a look especially if you have some mates to play it with.

P.s. If you own the PS2 version of Hunter wayward then you are bound to be put off, this game is a lot different in that its actually good

4.0 out of 5 stars ACTION!!!, 4 Dec 2003
If you liked the first Hunter game you will surely not be dissapointed. It delivers much more than the first one in graphics, gameplay and characters. And you can play the game on X-box live.
Throughout the game you are constantly surrounded by the evil and grotesque beings, that strive to kill you. Never a dull moment in this game!!!
