An average hack-and-slash adventure., 4 Jun 2004
This is your average hack-and-slash adventure. If you enjoy slashing your way through hoards of monsters from one end of a game to the other, then this is the game for you.A company known as Genefex has set up work in Ashcroft and unfortunately turned the town into a hideous monstrous haven for creatures of the undead. It is up to you and up to three other friends to take charge of, one of 5 hunters to wipe the dirt out of Ashcroft. Each of the Hunter's posses a wide range of close combat moves along with magical powers known as "Edges". There are three or four edge powers you can gain which are considerably more powerful than close or ranged attacks. Through killing creatures or by searching the area, you can find a number of weapons to use at your disposal. Weapons include shotguns, rocket launchers, flamethrowers automatic machine guns etc. Each character is also in possession of a ranged weapon with unlimited ammo, though it is considerably weaker to other ranged weapons. You can find upgrades to your gun that includes paralytic, fire, poison or even holy ammo. The more you use a particular attack, the more experience you will gain in that field, and then eventually increase in level. This leads to advanced upgrades or better and longer magical attacks or increased melee attacks. This encourages you to attack with different combos. Music is alright though at times it does not really match the action. Voice acting is good though throughout the game. Graphics are between alright and good. The creatures look good especially the bosses. They are well created and imaginative. One problem arises though. You eventually feel that you are fighting the same type of creature again and again throughout the game, whether they are zombies or humans, with a few larger or smaller creatures added. The quality with this game is the multiplayer side. It is a lot more enjoyable to play along side a friend throughout the game. Controls are easy to master as much of the time will be spent on bashing the attack buttons. Overall the game will not take that long to complete. It would have been nicer for a few more detailed levels. Throughout the game you can pick up special cards from which you can replay levels and play as the creatures you were fighting. This adds some replay ability. GRAPHICS: 7/10 Graphics are good, especially the bosses, which are creative and imaginative. SOUND: 7/10 Music is alright, though it sometimes does not match the action. Voice acting is good throughout the game. GAMEPLAY: 7/10 Gameplay feels slightly repetitive though the boss battles keep you going. A lot more fun with friends though. The good points: *Good voice acting. *Imaginative bosses. *Multiplayer. *Nice range of edges and weapons. *Ability to play as the creatures themselves. The bad points: *Feels repetitive. *Too many of one type of creature throughout the game. *Not a long game. *Music does not match the action at times. OVERALL RESULT: 7/10
