4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome EPK, 29 Sep 2003
By A Customer
The music video for "New Killer Star" is very surreal and doesn't feature Bowie at all. It has a beautiful creepy visual conceit that wears thin halfway through. Still, it's experimental enough not be an embarassment, though not one of the best Bowie music videos. Also, the song has been edited down slightly from the album version. The real tantalizing element of this DVD-single is the EPK, which has a funny interview with Bowie about writing the album and his tour, and has excerpt clips of Bowie singing "The Loneliest Guy" and "Never Get Old", along with some awesome imagery that accompanies "NKS", "Pablo Picasso," and "Bring Me The Disco King." The NKS imagery in the EPK is energetic, and it works better than the music video. The EPK end credit say that the performances and images are taken from the companion "Reality" short film. What other tricks does Bowie have up his sleeve. When is this coming? I want this now!! Oh yes, and the audio only B-side of Love Missile F1-11 is pretty cool, though I'm glad it didn't make the album since it would have been one too many cover songs. But good to have it here. Bowie still rules.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lo-down on New Killer Star (dvd), 8 Dec 2003
By Tyrone Duke (England/ Great Britain/ UK) - See all my reviews
Bowie's new album is awesome but his new DVD "New Killer Star" is out of this world and definaltly deserves a 5/5. The intro for the song is the best part(i think you will like it) and when he says "i'll never say im ready" adds a finishing touch to the song.
Bowie's new work has beeh praised already with him appearing on "Parkinson" and "Saturday night with Jonothon Ross". He has a video for his new album which also includes "New Killer Star".

He has changed his appearance for the better admitting he is getting older(wiser)and it suits him better than his old look.
Bowie has many faces and lies he shows us but on this album there torn off.
He's better now than the Ziggy Stardust days.

4.0 out of 5 stars New Killer...Single?, 2 Oct 2003
After the "will it, won't it?" saga of the single release of Slow Burn from last year's Heathen (In the end, it didn't get released, at least not in the UK), it would be fair to say that the promise of a new single was not one which was held with very much awe.

However, this time it has been released, and a very good song it is too. Essentially the same as the album version, with a shortened introductory section, New Killer Star rocks along at a steady pace, with a catchy little chorus and a decent verse. It might not grab you first time you listen to it, but it does grow on you, and in no time at all you'll be humming it to yourself without even realising it.

The video - thanks to Bowie and Columbia for a DVD release - is a strange affair with oddly edited sequences, and not a sign of Bowie or his band throughout the whole piece. In fact, certain scenes in it are reminiscent of nothing so much as the British children's television craze 'Teletubbies'. Decide for yourself whether ot not that's a good thing.

The rest of the package is fairly standard fare, and not a patch on the European release of Slow Burn (5 B-sides - fantastic!). A rather empty, if quite entertaining EPK with Bowie commenting on his feelings and reasons behind the new album, interspersed with clips from 5 of the songs on Reality, and a pleasant little cover version of Love Missile F1-11 are what's on offer here.

Not a bad little package, then, but another B-side or two would have been welcome. Be interesting to see what crops up on Never Get Old when it gets a release. In itself, though, New Killer Star deserves to do well, but based on recent Bowie chart performance, that seems rather unlikely.
