Very useful Content Manager, but needs more development., 12 Sep 2003
As a web designer, Contribute for me has been a mixed blessing... On one hand it's an amazing piece of software, so useful for me to give to my clients to update the websites I've created for them. It's Well priced (much cheaper than a cgi or php programmer's CMS) has an intuitive interface, is easy to learn, has simple features but is capable of more advanced operations such as importing Word documents. The most useful feature for me has been the ability to create templates in Dreamweaver, thus locking and securing the important code from accidental deletes by the client and allowing them to have full editable control over the content areas required. Brilliant!......But, now why it's a mixed blessing... Being FTP based, it's so s-l-o-w! - I have set up several websites using it, all with different hosting companies, and the average publish time is 4-7 minutes! - So be prepared to wait, make cups of tea, twiddle your thumbs... It really is that frustrating. I've noticed an improvement in speed when not using templates and allowing unrestricted editing... but then, who wants to offer that? Hmmm. So there's the dilemma. An excellent program that has superb potential at an excellent price, but with the unfortunate ability to make you very frustrated (and embarrassed when showing it to your client) I want to give it 5 stars for functionality, but 1 star for performance, hence a 3 star rating.
