Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
There are few signs of maturity on The Wolf, Andrew WK's second album--the tempo is a little slower, the production bigger--although after coming up with three songs with the word "Party" in the title last time around he does narrow it down here to just the one, "Long Live the Party". Like everything else on The Wolf, it is completely out of control, piled high with fire-breathing riffs, demonic choruses and the kind of message even toddlers can grasp: "I want to have a party / You cannot kill the party." Playing with former members of Florida speed-metal bands, the white-denim clad rocker delivers a set that is as brutal as it is brutally funny. Oprah has nothing on the sage advice delivered in power ballad "Never Let Down" ("You're doing OK / Just follow your heart"), while lingering Loverboy and Night Ranger fans will welcome the melodic collision of pianos and screaming guitars on tracks such as "The Song" and "Totally Stupid". There aren't too many records like this, and that's probably a good thing. --Aidin Vaziri

5.0 out of 5 stars whoo-ah, 22 Mar 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Wolf (Audio CD)
If Andrew WKs discography could be mapped into 24 hours, 'I Get Wet' would 7pm-9pm, the start of a fun party when everyones starting to get drunk. On the other hand 'The Wolf' is the period late into the night, were all drunk, sat on the floor, talking rubbish, getting emotional. This is why its such a great album, for me it creates the feeling of a night out with your mates especially the last 4 tracks. The feeling he generates is unbelievable, making you feel so happy and positive and also realise what life is all about. Well thats how a person who is drunk at 2am would say - and its true. You dont need a thesaurus to say how u feel, just say it. And thats what he does, its a fine line between genius and stupid but he lands in the genius zone.

5.0 out of 5 stars All hail the new king..., 10 Oct 2003

Absolutely superb. Before I'd heard this album I was an Andrew W.K. sceptic...but now, what can I say?! Imagine a cross between Bruce Springsteen, Meatloaf, Devin Townsend and Bill & Ted's Wyld Stallions....this album is all that and a lot more. I haven't ENJOYED an album this much in a long while. Every time I spin this album it puts a smile on my face - and not an 'ironic' smile either - this is the real deal. All hail Andrew W.K.!

5.0 out of 5 stars The party monster returns with less thrash, more thought., 16 Nov 2005
By Richard F (Glasgow) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Wolf (Audio CD)
I'll be honest. At first, when I just bought this album, I was slightly taken aback by it's down-tempo melodies and chunky pianos. Not that this was a bad thing - 'Got To Do It' was one of my favourite tracks on 'I Get Wet' - but on first listen, walking home from the music store, I was a little surprised.

However, this notion quickly passed and once I actually sat down and listened to 'The Wolf' track by track, I absolutely fell in love. This album is truly a revelation, and as Andrew himself said, an extension of what he began with 'I Get Wet'.The sound on this album doesn't so much stray from it's predecessor than expand it's vastness. Tracks like 'Never Let Down', 'I Love Music' and 'Long Live The Party' show genius production and composition of piano, guitar and drums. A personal favourite of mine, 'Tear It Up', rocks along with audacity and style. But perhaps the best thing about Andrew W.K. is the fact that his music is so simple, yet so complex and imaginative at the same time, all the while soundtracking the greatest party of all time.

Absent-minded people are disappointed because there are no 'Party Hard"s or 'Party Til You Puke"s on this CD, which is a blessing in many ways because it sees A.W.K. evolve his sound with maturity and grace. There may be less thrash, but what's lost in that aspect is made up for in big, thumping melodies and irresistable riffs.

Put simply, the world needs optimistic, fun music like 'The Wolf'. And the world needs this album as part of their collection. A revelation in music.
