Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
In Defender of the Crown King Richard has been slain and all of England thrown into civil war. Only one person can lay siege against the enemy and outwit the Normans to restore order to the war-torn land. In this one-player, arcade-style action combat and strategy game, players must face their foes on the battlefield or in grand tournaments of chivalry.

Players enter majestic tournaments where they joust for fame, fortune, and land, and engage their rivals in intense sword-fighting duels and castle-shattering catapult sieges. Whether players are rescuing beautiful damsels, crushing their rivals in battle while defending their territories from invasion, or building their armies and reputation through a stunning variety of arcade sequences, victory will not come easily. Skills, swordsmanship, and military prowess will be severely tested as players battle to save England and win the love of many a beautiful damsel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Help me Robin Hood!, 5 May 2004
By Mr Hibbz "himble" (Sheffield, UK) - See all my reviews
After returning from campaining with the King you and your fellow knights return to your castles. Meanwhile the King is assasinated and so starts the battle to defend the English throne from the Normans. This is a turn based strategy game where you must conquer and defend English and Welsh counties, which provide you with your income to fund your armies. Along with this you can raid opposition castles in order to steal gold or to rescue fair maidens, hold touraments where you can joust for fame or land, and also lay seige to enemy castles.

If you remember the original fondly you will love this game, I bought this on import from the US and cannot put it down. You may feel that this review is a little generous if you don't remember or didn't like the original game. All in all a great game and provides you with something a little different for your GBA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Defender of the Crown-A Classic GBA Game, 4 April 2005
By Reviewer (UK, Dundee) - See all my reviews
At first when I tried this game, it seemed rather dull, even pointless. I was very wrong though, as I soon discovered it's one of the best GBA games I've played.

Once you get the hang of what to do and how to do it, it becomes very addictive. You build up enough gold to buy castles, soldiers, cattapults etc. Then you try to take over all the different regions in England. Meanwhile you can also raid castles for more gold, and take part in jousting contests. At the same time the other computer players are trying to take over the land, so it becomes an addictive battle.

The other great thing is once you manage to finish it, you can just start again, with a different character if you like. This is a great game and nothing like I've ever seen on GBA, I would recommend anyone to buy it!!
