Boyband Signing Kills Green Day Superhits, 22 Nov 2003
1. Rudiger - 2000 Light Years Away. Music is well played but the vocals are that kind of squeeky boyband type that dont fit with punk at all! 2/52. Inspection 12 - FOD. Excellent, origional cover, good mix, good vocals! 4/5 3. Wirebox - When I Come Around. Brilliant, this is what a tribute album is about, taking the song and adapting it to fit your own style! Female vocals complement this v.well 5/5 4. Fenway Park - She. Amature guitars, sounds shoddy at times, cover is just slowed down and sounds awful with the vocals! 1/5 5. The Velma Fix - Basket Case. Good effort, especially the good use of two guitars, sounds fresh! 4/5 6. Insomniac - Minorty. An Exact copy of the origional, good but no point if your just gonna copy the song exactly. 3/5 7. Weezer - Worry Rock. A different approach, but poorly done, sounds thrown together at the last min. 3/5 8. Taking The Fall - Redundat. Worst song on the album, this band would be better on a NFG tribute album. The vocals are awful, dont fit with punky songs at all! 0/5 9. Wester - J.A.R. Not much better than redundant, good music, very bad vocals! 1/5 10. Up Syndrome - Going To Pasalacqua. Very Good effort, again not much variation from the origional, vocals are a bit more cheeky, and the song benefits from a good recording! 3/5 11. Knockout - Burnout. No one can play Tre Cools drum fills. A bad choice of cover, more bad vocals! 2/5 12. McDolly - Macy Day Parade. Excellent cover. Origional and a good tribute to Green Day, shame it is only 1 min 44 secs tho! 5/5 13. Pensive - Chistie Road. Slow style not too good for lyrics dont fit too well, good at the end when it picks up though! 2/5 14. Wheelie - Rest. Good accoustic cover of rest. Highlight though is the 'secret' cover of all by my self! 4/5 A poor, thrown together album. I'm sure with a bit more patience they could have had some 'better' bands on here, perhaps some of Green Days peers - The Offspring, Blink 182, Penywise, Rancid! would have made a much better album! Squeeky boyband type vocals really need to be kicked out of punk rock. Its ruining it for everyone. How do these bands keep getting signed!
