3.0 out of 5 stars Tomorrow People takes a bit of a dive, 19 Aug 2004
By A Customer
Compared to the first two seasons with episodes like The Blue and the Green (2:1) and Vanishing Earth (1:3), some of the eps in series 3 are a definite departure (somewhat unsuccessful) from the original series. A Man For Emily has to be one of the worst episodes ever - though not because we get to see Peter Davison (aka Dr. Who number 5) in one of his first acting experiences on screen. The other episodes are better. The special effects (though typical BBC 1970s quality) are not bad really. Remember, Tomorrow People was not so much about special effects than a storyline. Any fan who grew up watching Tomorrow People should jaunt over to the "Buy" button and get this DVD, just for the sake of history.

I have to say, though, that the DVD commentary, on all the discs (Seasons 1, 2, and 3) can be quite funny. In most cases its "Stephen" and "John", and occasionally "Tim" and "Liz". Although the host tries to ask them serious questions about the production of the show, they spend most of their time cracking jokes and pointing fun at each other's acting (Tim's "balls", Stephen's facial expressions, John's wardrobe, picking on Tyso, etc.). Definitely watch the episode first, then watch it again with the commentary. It's almost like being in the room with the actors as they pick apart their own performances, thirty years later. You don't get to learn much about the production of the show, but it's a good laugh.

In spite of Man for Emily being such a different episode, one highlight is Peter Davison being in the commentary! He starts off more serious, but then joins in with the banter with the other acters. Peter Davison was one of my favorite Dr. Who actors, so it's good to hear his voice and know that he is still alive and well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable., 29 Jan 2009
Thanks to the spooky theme music, a defining childrens SF series that I enjoyed along Tom Baker's Doctor Who as a child.
I only bought this the other week as I was keen to see the episode with the alien Khultan which creeped me out with their dog/wolf mask's.....and Keith 'Chegger's' Chegwin!!
This story is called 'Worlds Away'. The first story 'Secret Weapon' is also very good. It's very retro to watch it again. The commentary from Nick Young and Peter Vaughn-Clarke is near the knuckle funny stuff. So much so I've ordered the full box set to have more laughs.
I'm also quite keen to watch Season 1 and 2 too, and some later stories. A month ago I would have never considered buying one Tomorrow People DVD, but it's so good to watch again...and that includes the funny commentary.
