Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The release of Dance of Death, Iron Maiden's 13th studio album, comes at a most fortuitous time. Fortuitous for them, because in 2003--after years of struggle--rock has fought its way back to the top of the UK charts (thanks, in large part, to the success of The Darkness). Fortuitous for us, because Dance of Death ably demonstrates why, amongst the Monsters of Rock pantheon, Iron Maiden are the Godzilla.

With singer Bruce Dickenson and guitarist Adrian Smith now firmly re-entrenched after returning for their previous album, Brave New World, Iron Maiden seem newly reinvigorated. Dance of Death sounds like classic Maiden--in particular Seventh Son of a Seventh Son--right down to the over-the-top production. It kicks off at breakneck speed with first single "Wildest Dreams", builds to a crescendo by track three (the anthemic "No More Lies"), and for the most part, maintains this pace throughout the album, pausing only briefly for the slow build of the title track or the orchestra-laden, battlefield epic "Paschendale". Dickinson's overwrought vocals add gravity to apocalyptic lyrics that would descend into irony or outright silliness at the hands of a lesser band (who else could get away with the sound effect of a hawk's cry in the middle of a song?). These are serious men playing serious music, and after more than two decades, Iron Maiden can still teach the big-shorted yoof a thing or two about rock. With Dance of Death, Iron Maiden aren't just back, they're back on top. --Robert Burrow

CD Description

'Dance Of Death' is the thirteenth studio album from Londonmetal sextet Iron Maiden and the follow-up to their 2000 release 'Brave New World'. Produced by Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith/The Black Cowes), the album is undeniably classic Maiden. Relentlessly fast-paced songs with hard-hitting choruses andpowerful lyrics sit alongside epic melodic tracks with orchestral strings and acoustic guitars. Includes the lead single 'Wildest Dreams'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maiden's back!, 12 Sep 2003
I have to say I was surprised to se how good this album is. Maiden's back with full-force! The album manages to be 100% what Iron Maiden fans have come to expect but it feels like a touch of fresh air in today's music and a great follow up to Brave New World, because of the fact that it doesn't sound much like it. One of the highlights in the album is Wildest Dreams, a short, straight up melodic rocker and the first single of the album. The title track is what comes closer to B.N.W in sound and structure, but it is a true epic. Rainmaker, Age of Innocence, Face in the Sand and the acoustic Journeyman are also true highlights and No More Lies reminds me of the Blaze era, in a good way. Nevertheless, the classic here is Paschendale. This song is one of the best I have heard in a long time and by itself it's worth twice the price of the album. It's definately the next classic track from Maiden. For the fans of the band this is a great album and probably will end up one of Maiden' s top 5 albums in many people's lists but for today's music and metal world this is the best thing to come around in a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, 11 Sep 2003
Sounding like Maiden from the beginning, all rodes in between, and including solo stuff. This is a fantastic metal album showing once again what real metal music should sound like. Very mature, road hardened veterans, blasting away, and loving what they do. UP THE IRONS!
