5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent despite some small annoyances, 15 Aug 2005
By A Customer
This video really is first class for anyone who has not 'Jived' before. I had attended a few Ceroc classes many years ago, but forgotten most of it.

This video starts from the very basics, taking you through hand hold and body position.

The moves are explained clearly and after each one, they outline common problems and what to watch out for. After each set of moves, they are combined into a routine, showing clearly how all the Ceroc moves are combined into a dance.

It is a fair comment that the music and dance on the video don't match but this is not a problem. One, the music is horrible and synthetic. Two, you can't watch while dancing anyway!! Pause the DVD and have some rock and roll on standby and Jive away to your hearts content!

I strongly reccommend this for men too. I purchased this, learnt and practised the moves with a friend then went to a club a few nights later and was able to lead girls through a few dances - goes down very well when you can lead confidently - it doesn't matter whether or not they know the dance, they will follow!

This video is certianly money well spent. The only problem is it leaves you itching for more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Certainly an infectious dance, 26 Feb 2005
Although I learnt to "Le Roc" years ago, I bought this DVD in order to refresh my memory and to teach my husband how to jive. The format of the DVD is very easy to follow and offers a range of teaching strategies to teach the eleven beginner's moves. For those that prefer a visual teaching approach, there is a pair of dancers that go through the individual moves at various speeds, whilst a female commentator talks you through the sequence. In total, there are three routines with each routine consisting of three/four new moves. After each move is taught, the commentator offers tips on how to ensure that the man leads effectively or on how to ensure that the move is executed at the right speed. At the end of each routine, the dancers show you how to put the three/four moves that you have just learnt into a sequence. The speed of teaching is appropriate, but you do need to practise (especially if you don't know your left from your right!)
On the downside, the music is not very inspiring and I do agree with one of the reviewers that the beat of the music does seem out of synch with the dancers. However, as the purpose of this DVD is to teach you how to dance, it is easy enough to put on your own favourite track of music and practise the moves that you have just learnt.
On the whole, we have both learnt a lot from this DVD and I would recommend it to anyone who is learning to dance or just wants a refresher course in Ceroc/Le Roc/Modern Jive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great starter lessons for beginners, 21 Feb 2004

(REAL NAME)
I found this DVD very helpful when I first started dancing Le Roc (modern jive) as it goes through some easy beginner's moves which gives you a good platform to build your repertoire on. It gives helpful tips on each move and shows you how to put the moves together into routines, before explaining how to vary the moves in freestyle dancing. If you're thinking of starting Le Roc, Ceroc or any other brand name given to modern jive, this DVD can only help you.
