Product Description

Product Description

Prom night at East Green Falls High is only three weeks away and hormonal teens Jim (Jason Biggs), Oz (Chris Klein), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) all vow to lose their virginity before the big night. Rumours are already spreading of Finch's sexual prowess; Oz plans to seduce the newly arrived Heather (Mena Suvari); and Kevin, well at least he has girlfriend Vicky (Tara Reid); but Jim, Jim is growing more desperate with every passing day. Will the boys get lucky in the time remaining?

From Amazon.co.uk

Anyone who's watched just about any teenage film knows that the greatest evil in this world isn't chemical warfare, ethnic cleansing, or even the nuclear bomb. The worst crime known to man? Why, virginity, of course. As we've learned from countless films--from Summer of '42 to Risky Business--virginity is a criminal burden that one must shed oneself of as quickly as possible. And while many of these films have given the topic a bad name, American Pie quietly sweeps in and gives sex some of its dignity back. Dignity, you may say? How can a film that highlights intercourse with fruit pies, premature ejaculation broadcast across the Internet and the gratuitous "gross-out" shots restore the dignity of a genre that's been encumbered with such heavyweights as Porky's and Losin' It? The plot of American Pie may be typical, with four high-school friends swearing to "score" by prom, yet the film rises above the muck with its superior cast, successful and sweet humour, and some actually rather retro values about the meaning and importance of sex. Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas and Eddie Kaye Thomas make up the odd quartet of pals determined to woo, lie and beg their way to manhood. The young women they pursue are wary girlfriend Vicky (Tara Reid), choir girl Heather (Mena Suvari), band geek Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), and just about any other female who is willing and able. Natasha Lyonne as Jessica, playing a similar role as in Slums of Beverly Hills, is the general advisor to the crowd (when Vicky tells her "I want it to be the right time, the right place," Jessica responds, "It's not a space shuttle launch, it's sex"). The comedic timing hits the mark--especially in the deliberately awkward scenes between Jim (Biggs) and his father (Eugene Levy). And, of course, lessons are learned in this genuinely funny film, which will probably please the adult crowd even more than it will the teenage one. --Jenny Brown --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Some people have stated that this film is the Porky's for the nineties. I disagree, Porky's was unrealistic and daft. American pie, it has to be said, is one of those films which captures the moment precisely and is therefore extreemly funny. The script was written by someone who fully understands the sexual angst that teenagers go through in order to 'come of age'. The whole apple pie scene definitly deserves to enter cinema myth and legend as one of those great funnies, which I'm sure will be copied to death, as will the 'Beer with added extras' scene.

This is one of the funniest films I've seen. Ever. It shows how teenagers really are, horny, desperate, confused and full of abusive language.
The way Alyson Hannigan portrays Michelle, the sexually active band geek is awsome. You'll be going to you friends "This One Time..."
This definatly holds some of the funniest character's you'll ever come across. Stifler is pure entertainment, Jim is generally amusing, Finch is just so werid and everyone else is so unique you'll be falling off your chair with laughter!!

A hilarious tale of high school friends on the ultimate quest to lose their virginity. American Pie succeeds not only because is it hilarious, but also because the portrayl of teenage urges is something that most people can relate to. The cast are all fantastic in their roles, a first for a teen movie. Jason Biggs and Sean William Scott are the most notable of the teenage roles, but the real highlight of the cast is Eugene Levy as Jim's outrageous father. A great film to watch alone or with friends, and good for repeated viewings. The sequel is also recommended for bigger and louder laughs, but it lacks the heart and charm of the original.
There are a few features on this DVD, the usual trailer, an interesting featurette, some out-takes and a commentary.

14 years on and this is now a classic movie. Blu-ray brings the characters to life visually on a big TV and the sound mix is much more involving so blu ray an essential upgrade if you like this movie. What make this film soooo good is the casting and character development. The two sequels from that era are equally as slick and polished. The subject matter is not shocking, its just high school kids growing up and its very very funny. The 15 certificate pretty much pushes every limit and the one word of caution is that since most people let their 12 year olds watch 15-rated movies I would suggest that this really is only for 14,15,16 + age groups unless your kids are mature in their outlook on the subject matter. RECOMMENDED !!

'American Pie' is great! I went to see it twice at the cinema, and I can't wait to get it on video. The previous reviewer is right that it's like a version of 'Porkies' for the nineties - it's a modern updating of the 80's frat-house comedy genre in more ways than one. By contrast with its earlier (inferior) cousin, 'American Pie' is intelligent, unexploitative and has decent roles for its female characters.
It's also tempting to compare 'Pie' to 'There's Something About Mary' because both films share a high gross-out factor - Jim's exploits with the pie, his sock (!) and a collection of adult magazines form a running joke through the course of the whole film, and there probably isn't a sexual taboo that isn't confronted. And of course there's the funny-tasting beer and the laxative gags (both of which the film would have been better without, really).
But to compare 'American Pie' with either of these other films is to miss what makes is truly unique - it's outlook is unashamedly romantic and optimistic, with a complex set of messages that you'd never expect from a film nominally about four guys out to get laid. Our heroes' relationships evolve in entirely different, unexpected ways, largely avoiding clichés and cheap gags too... resulting in much of the film being totally hilarious: the live-sex Internet broadcast is awesomely funny. See this film!

Ever since 'Animal House' and 'Porky's' almost every American high school/teen comedy has been dire, notably anything with Tom Green in it. So, when a friend leant me their copy 'American Pie' on vid i was pretty skeptical at first. So, I was pretty schocked to find myself chuckling out loud almost continuously. Best scenes for me are the Internet broadcast, dad and his porno mags and the killer line at the end of the 'band camp' blarney. This is way better than 'Animal House' and 'Porky's' and is possibly the best comedy for a very long time. And that includes 'The full Monty'.
