Synopsis

Channel 4's comedy drama TEACHERS returns with a second series of extracurricular activity. Andrew Lincoln (THIS LIFE) stars as Simon, a feckless English teacher whose enthusiasm is somewhat eroded by his sharp-tongued and uninspired Year Eights. In addition to problematic pupils, he finds himself and his equally hapless colleagues having to spark up in the toilets whilst the formidable Head of Year attempts to glean countless unstarted bits of marking and reports off him. The action follows the teachers' arbitrary attitudes to their own work and includes many school-night drunken confessionals and adolescent antics. Also starring Nina Sosanya, Richard Dale and Jeremy Lovering.

From the Back Cover

"Don’t want to go to school tomorrow. I hate the first day back. I get this kind of knot here." Not the words of a hormonal adolescent, but those of teacher Simon, whining to his mates in the pub. Join Simon, Jenny, Kurt, Brian and Susan for a new term, new students, new drinking games and new teachers …

The lives and lifestyles of a group of young comprehensive school teachers in Bristol forms the backdrop for the second series of this original drama series. Starring Andrew Lincoln, Teachers is set in the fictional Summerdown Comprehensive, where a mix of seasoned and young teachers and some raucous pupils makes for some humorous incidents. Set as much out of the classroom as in it, this is a contemporary light-hearted series where the staff find their lives just as problematic after school.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilariously well observed comedy, 10 Sep 2003
You don't have to be a teacher to love Teachers.
I have watched this program through all three series and it has just got better and better.
It is filmed in the style of a fly-on-the wall documentary, with interesting camera angles and a rough and ready feel. More often than not, the funniest action is in the background, so you'd better pay attention! Don't worry if you miss something, you can happily watch these episodes over and over without getting bored.
The teachers act like kids, the kids act like disapproving adults and the overall effect is to get me laughing like I've never laughed before.
To top it off, the soundtrack is a well chosen collection of mostly brit-pop music that will keep your feet tapping throughout.
If you liked the first series, which is already out on DVD, this one is a must. This series will happily stand alone though, so you won't be lost if you start with series 2.
You'll not be disappointed with this, I promise.

5.0 out of 5 stars I didn't think there could be any improvement...., 25 Aug 2004
After watching Teachers Series One, I didn't think there could be any improvement and I was cautious of watching series two just in case it wasn't as good. My fears were unfounded. Series Two is a million miles better than the thoroughly outstanding Series One.
Series One featured Simon as the princpal character and the plot lines seemed to revolve around him. Don't get me wrong, Simon's great, but there is only so much you can stand of his whining, laziness and sheer incompetance. Series Two reconises this and Simon, whilst still being a main character, takes a step backwards to let the other character's stories come across. Indeed, Simon's utter incompetance and hatred of teaching is eclipsed by English NQT Penny who has had a boob job on hire purchase and knows nothing about literature or teaching.
Plot wise there are some cracking story lines ranging from: Kurt trying to dump Carol; Brian dealing with teaching Liz's lippy daughter; Susan falling out with Jenny over persistant naturist Alex, her new boyfriend; Simon finally doing the romantic thing that viewers have been waiting for and announcing his love for Susan, who turns him down flatly; Brian questioning his sexuality; normally sensible Susan acting first like a teenager in love and then like a child having a tantrum; Simon and Jenny united against Penny; Bob dressed like a pillock; Simon's departure; Matt's arrival; Susan sleeping with Brian; and Kurt getting back with Carol. Phew! I'm in the wrong profession methinks!
This is definitely a fantasic buy. Roll on Third Series DVD and the fourth series on TV!

5.0 out of 5 stars education has never been so interesting..., 1 Dec 2003
By A Customer
I wish my teachers had been as amusing as this. I wish my school had been as amusing as this, but sadly, it wasn't. Still, this series has brought me endless entertainment, has brought some brilliant eye candy into my living room (the lovely Matt for example, who although is late to arrive in this series is a very welcome face nonetheless!!). The only series on Channel 4 to be commissioned for a third season - this speaks for itself. The writing is witty and the surreal additions to Summerdown School's days are entertaining to say the least (who let that donkey in, anyway?!).
This is a must for any fan of the series when it was on TV, for any teacher who feels their job is getting them down (this will make you feel so much better about your pupils and your colleagues...) and for anyone who loves good British, well written, well thought out comedy - which is lacking in today's schedules which play host to an endless glut of American sit-coms, whose writing is not as good as this.

Buy it, sit back and enjoy - this is an investment and by no means simply a purchase.
