5.0 out of 5 stars Stress reduced presentations, 17 Nov 2004
Being a techie type who loves gadgets, I finally decided to get something to help reduce the stress of running presentations. I checked out what was on the market and settled on this little baby. It fulfils my requirements perfectly: no more dashing up and down meeting rooms to hit 'page-up', mouse or touchpad keys (and getting it wrong, or losing my thread in the process). No more added anxieties when preparing to deliver presentations because I've forgotten which keys do what.

Only one thing to remember, spare AAA batteries; perhaps my only minor criticism is that there is no 'off' switch for the hand held bit. However, according to the technical specs (which I read after I had set it up and played with it, of course) the current drain in 'sleep' mode is just 1 microamp, so pretty darned small. If you don't use the device regularly, say once a month or so, best to just pop the batteries out and store them separately. Carry a spare set anyway, you'll never want to be forced to use the keyboard or mouse again.

The supplied USB extender cable overcomes weird shaped or deeply set USB orifices which exist on some laptops, and is a handy thing to have anyway. Duracell batteries supplied too. Ooh - that's style!

I loved the laser light too; good for exterminating customers....Zap! Fzzzzzz... smoke smoke... (Seriously, be careful it is a Class 2 laser, so keep it out of people eyes)

I run Windows XP on a Viao and the machine recognised it immediately from plug & play. It works up to 10m; I tried it - it does. Being radio it doesn't need line of sight like infrared transmitters, but I guess 10m of metal filled walls might degrade the signal a bit - or very dense headed audience members perhaps. Hmmm...

For Star Wars fans, it's easy to believe that you are wielding a lightsabre. If you've ever been in one of my presentations, you'll wish you could, but that's because my presentations are boring, don't blame the equipment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to use, 8 Jan 2004

Simple, straight forward, easy to use gadget.
If all you want to do is control a Powerpoint (or similar) presentation without having to continually go to the computer this the gadget for you. It is basic but that is what you want. It is simple to use - plug the usb receiver in and start using it, I used it without any modification under Windows and Linux and it even made a good attempt on a Sun box.
It even has a laser pointer built in.

As good as any similar products costing considerably more.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT DOES EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN!, 24 Feb 2004
    By A Customer
If you are looking for a hand-held cordless device to assist with PowerPoint presentations, then look no further.

There are two main buttons for navigating forwards or backwards through your slides, and a handy built-in laser pointer. At the touch of another button you can switch from PowerPoint mode to Mouse mode. In Mouse mode the two main buttons act like the left and right buttons on any standard mouse. The cursor is controlled by a 16-directional control pad. This is perfectly OK for occasional use but it's no substitute for a conventional mouse.

I have Windows XP Home Edition and installation could not have been simpler. I plugged in the receiver to a spare USB port and my laptop immediately recognised the device. Within seconds the Targus Presenter was up and running.

The Amazon price represents incredible value for this excellent accessory. If you give PowerPoint presentations, this is a 'must have' item.
