Oddly Likable and very Listenable, 3 Aug 2003
Critics are constantly complaining about the state of the Britsh singles charts. This has been going on since the early fifties. However, the sad truth is that at the present moment, they are pretty accurate as to the current batch of singles released by the music industry. With that in mind, "4 minute warning" is a pleasant surprise. I remember when Mark Owen made his first attempt at a solo career, his album "Green Man" was reviewed in "The Times", the reviewer said "Oddly Likable, but not particularly listenable" The reviewer was correct at the time, Owen does appear to have a genuine talent for songwriting, a novelity for a ex-boyband member, even from one as respected as Take That. His only major flaw is his voice, it's not the strongest. However after saying all this, since his last attempt at a solo career , he seems to have developed the ability to create catchy pop songs if the samples on his official website are any indication, "Oddly Likable, and Very Listenable" He may fall flat on his face with this comeback, but an viable alternative to Robbie would make things interesting.
