Product Description

Album Description

KING ROCK'N'ROLL: This long-awaited follow-up to 2001’s acclaimed "King Rockabilly" (CHD 777) consists almost entirely of rare rockabilly and rock’n’roll side that are new to CD, including three issued here for the first time, all taken directly from the master tapes. Highlights include early rockers by Wes Voight, (who later became Chip Taylor under which name he famously wrote the classic ‘Wild Thing’) and rare one-offs such as ‘What Is Your Technique’ by the archly named Ronnie Speeks & his Elrods. Previously unissued sides by Delbert Barker and Fuller Todd, who both appeared on "King Rockabilly", will also be welcomed. The rarity and previous unavailability of these sides, not to mention the contrasting styles of the hard rockin’ music, makes "King Rock‘n’Roll" an essential (as opposed to optional) purchase for all fans and collectors of music from the Golden Age. Compiled and annotated by Rob Finnis, the man behind "King Rockabilly" and one of the team on our fabled "Golden Age" series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great rock and roll, 30 Mar 2004

(REAL NAME)
I'm indifferent to most of the content on this CD with the exception of track 2 and 16. Each which is worth the price of the CD. Both tracks can safely be said to be among the very best 1950's rock'n'roll.

Swing dancers will probably find a lot of danceable tracks on this CD, but tracks 2 and 16 really stand out.
