4.0 out of 5 stars A great machine with minor quibbles, 14 Jan 2004
    By A Customer
A truly great machine with a terrible manual. No reliability problems - not a single coaster so far. Operating is somewhat quirky with skip and fast forward on the same remote key.(You hold button to FF so imagine how many times you'll accidentally skip). M4 (4 hour mode) is probably equivalent to VCR recording - not the M6 claimed. I use M2x (2.5 hour) - the results are superb. All discs play ok on Matsui DVD player though edits (eg removing adverts) only work on the DVDR75 for DVD+Rs (R/Ws play edits fine on another player). This is contrary to the manual so I had this confirmed by phillips.
Great Value for the Money I Paid and our Lives are much Richer for It!

    5.0 out of 5 stars DVDR75 top marks., 9 Sep 2004
By Mrs. CJ Stone (Dorset. United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
I ordered this recorder not really knowing what to expect from a machine that would not only read the little silver discs, but record them as well. I read all the reviews and this one seemed to stand out, value for money (it is one of the cheapest around) connections for a video camera, but most of them seemed to say the manual was hard to make head or tail of. It's just not true, I (a mere female) found it very easy to understand, and after letting the machine set itself up, I popped a disc in, pressed all the right buttons and hey-presto, one extremely well recorded dvd. The playback quality (on the second best running time 2hrs) was truly superb and I would venture to say, better than the original telly picture that it was recording. Even my husband commented, although it's hard to see how it could have been enhanced. I would have no problem recommending this item to anyone looking for a quality piece of kit, at a thoroughly reasonable price. We have by no means explored all it's possibilities yet, but I am confident that it will not dissapoint. I will say, it it linked up to a Philips telly, and this way the handset for the dvd recorder also controls quite a lot of functions on the telly too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Say goodbye to VHS, 6 Oct 2003
Its simple to operate and the quality of the results is fine (even the 6 hour record mode gives acceptable results when archiving old VHS). I use 3 hour and 2.5 hour modes for Sky and high quality VHS.

The fast forward speeds are 4x, 8x & 32x - and deploying these uses the same button as skipping chapters or tracks so you need to get the knack of this early.

Its stacked with handy features such as splitting titles and adding chapter markers after you've recorded (wish my CDR did that). The DVDRs won't play on our oldest DVD player (which is about 6 years old now) but they will on the rest.

No technical data in the manual BTW.

Oh and remeber to find a cheap source of DVDRs - you'll need one!

    Stephen
