Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

For use in CompactFlash compliant devices including Digital Cameras, PDA's and MP3 Players..

Stores image, music, movie and data files, 5 year swap-out warranty, complete with a protective case.

ByteStor Hi-Speed CompactFlash cards are produced to the highest standards using high quality components to ensure compatibility and reliability. Extra memory cards will maximise the potential of your digital device.

Hi-Speed - ByteStor HS cards have been designed for medium to high-end cameras or devices where a high write speed in required: Standard CompactFlash has a write speed of 600KB/x (4X) to 1.2MB/s (8X). ByteStor HS cards have a write speed of 6.0MB/s (40X).

A digital camera has a cycle time. This is the time it takes to save the picture, before the next shot can be taken. With a higher speed card this time is shorter, therefore the user has less time to wait between shots. This is crucial in a fast moving environment such as sport. ByteStor HS will also work as a standard card for CompactFlash compliant devices.

  • Shoot more pictures on holiday where downloading may be impractical
  • Capture more hi-resolution images
  • Take more multiple shots and select the best ones when practical
  • Spreading images across two or more cards in case a card is lost on holiday
  • Carry a wider selection of music (at higher quality) for your MP3 player
  • Store more data and backup important files on your PDA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and furious, 19 Dec 2003
By Wibles (Oxfordshire, UK) - See all my reviews
    (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
I purchased this 256Mb compact flash card simply in order to be able to take more pictures.

But the real advantage, as I subsequently found, is its speed. I use it in a Canon PowerShot A80 with rapid multishot shooting mode. With the 32Mb card that comes with the camera you can acheive around 1.2 frames per second (fps). With this card you can snap around 2.5 fps. It doesn't sound like much of an improvement but for capturing a moving event that you really can't afford to miss... its a must.

Snap 20 pictures, delete the 15 you don't need. Quick and painless.

Fast, easy to use, and helps you not to miss the magical moments we all want to treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bytestore 512 Mb X40 high speed compact flash, 6 Aug 2004
I have been using one of these cards for around 9 months, and have found them to be very good and reliable and excellent value for cost v performance, in fact I have just bought a 2nd one
I don't agree that the Jessops standard card is equal to this card and in any case it is £20 more than the Bytestore (maybe some cards are faulty) but not the two that I have.
I use this card with a Canon EOS 10D it will write a Raw+small fine Jpeg is under 3 seconds (approx 7Mb file) and a large fine Jpeg in approx 1.5 seconds approx 3.5 Mb so that is consistent.
On a 470 Mb test file it will right from PC to card in approx 3 minuets and download from card to PC in approx 50 seconds (using a USB 2.0 card reader)
I tested it on a benchmarking program and it returned an average (over 3 separate tests) x32 read and x20 write. (Cards are seldom if ever as fast as their rating)
I have never encountered any in cameras errors and have used the card in temperatures as low as -4 °C at this temperature the battery power in the main issue with all cards and cameras, all batteries are less efficient low temperatures. And high speed cards will have more drain at low temperatures.
One thing of note is that a 512Mb card is actually 488Mb when formatted this is due to the way the capacity is calculated.
    Capacity:
    Raw+small fine Jpeg approx 75 files At IS0 100
large fine Jpeg approx 200 files At IS0 100 the higher the IS0 that you use will decrease the amount of files that can be stored due to digital noise
There are faster cards available but not at this price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fast Compact Flash for large digital photos, 24 Jan 2004
I bought this card as an upgrade from a standard 256 MB compact flash to use on a Canon 10D 6.3 megapixel Digital SLR

Storage: 204 large fine Jpeg at 3.5 MB mega pixel images 75 Raw files approx 6 MB each. Much more with a lower resolution camera or file size.

Firstly, this card writes large image files very fast compared to a standard CF card.
Its 512 MB capacity means that you probably won’t run short of space on an average days shooting.

Pros: Fast read and write speeds, good price, no errors (with a Canon 10D) good amount of storage, fast download from card to PC, even faster with a USB 2.0 card reader.

Cons: none so far, but would be nice if bytestor made a 1 gigabyte version.

Card worked fine for 3 years and then failed. It failed with a memory card error on our Ixus but the small memory card that came with the camera was fine.
