The game gives a broader mix of songs, doesn't play the music video for the track, and the songs aren't done by the original artists (although unless you watch the video extras you'd be hard pressed to notice), and yet its definitely more fun to play than SingStar.
Just like the Konami dancemat games you chose a character, and when you sing (at a choice of locations which increases as you play the game) you see your character on the stage and watch and hear the audience response, which makes it much more engaging.
I also prefered the Konami microphone, which is lighter and comes with a longer lead.
Its worth knowing that the microphones for SingStar and Karaoke Stage are not cross compatible.

I recently got a chance to play this game at E3 in japan and from the moment I saw the game in action I knew it would be legandary. The graphics are visualy stunning and the game play is fab it is so addictive it just keeps bringing you back for more. With a wide selection of song and gameplay modes this is going to be one of the must have games for next year.
