Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Traditional 11-a-side games have always fared badly next to the giants (Pro Evolution and FIFA Football), so it's brave of Acclaim to attempt something different with Urban Freestyle Soccer. Turning its back on venues such as Anfield, the Stadium of Light and Boothferry Park, UFS takes a "street" approach to the beautiful game, with four-on-four action that takes place in car parks, cages and other locations around the world.

In an effort to make the game hip, the rulebook has been tossed aside so no prior knowledge of the offside trap is necessary and an elbow to the face is positively encouraged as the game's rival gangs attempt to take the position of top dog by showcasing their superior football skills. As is common with many video game releases these days, the soundtrack consists of a collection of infinitely forgettable two-dimensional hip-hop-type tunes, plus one from the Queens of the Stone Age. Adding to the aural experience is a variety of repetitive insults designed to add a real-world feeling to the playing experience.

The control method for UFS is initially confusing. There seems to be a lot to do to carry off some of the more spectacular shots and passes. With experience however, comes the knowledge that it's actually quite straightforward to pull off the kind of manoeuvres that would make Ronaldo gasp in admiration.

Graphically there's nothing to write home about here, everything is functional and it does what it says on the box but there's also nothing to really excite the imagination. True footy fans would be well advised to stick to Pro Evolution Soccer or FIFA Football for their gaming satisfaction, though those looking or something a little different might find some salvation in Urban Freestyle Soccer. --Chris Russell

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant game - Second best to Pro Evo 3, 21 Feb 2004
By Jonathan Hooke (Coventry .England) - See all my reviews
I bought UFS today (20 Feb) and it is a brilliant game. There is no rules so you can punch, kick and grab your way through this game. There is 4 teams to start with and a further 6 to unlock, there is also different arenas to play in ie.Cage,Back streets in Jamaica,England,USA and South America. As soon as you start playing you notice that the gameplay is much more pacy than Pro Evo and you can perform somersaults, backflips and bicycle kicks and much more. This game also has a license with Adidas,so the merchandise is made by them.If you are decicding what game to buy: Fifa 2004,Pro Evo 3 and UFS.Buy Pro Evo 3 and then get UFS you wont be disappointed.Keep away from Fifa it is 100% pants!

4.0 out of 5 stars NBA street volume 2- football style!, 29 Oct 2003
By craig j (haverhill, suffolk, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Have you seen this? it looks amazing. I saw a short trailer of this game on gamezville and believe me, if you want a game that's fun to play, while being competetive, choose this. The little flick ups, stepovers and rainbow kicks (if you don't know what i'm on about, you will when you buy this game) are done to perfection. And what's better, you can move wheelie-bins e.t.c in front of the goal to help you. How cool is that? So, if you've ever played NBA street volume 2, and you like it, you'll love this. I can't wait!

2.0 out of 5 stars Hopeless, 6 Feb 2004
With the brilliant ProEvolution Soccer out in the market, a game like UFS would need to do something drastically different to justify its existence. As it turns out its almost a total waste of time. a street soccer game without customizable teams? Hopeless goal keeping AI? Poor camera angles and pointless smack talking? UFS has it all. Avoid like the plague.

Avoid this game at all costs. Really gets boring quickly with repetative gameplay, the characters are laughable, very easy to complete also. Read more
