Product Description

Product Description

Gladiator--Sword of Vengeance is an epic fighting game set in Ancient Rome. You are a Warrior Slave, chosen by the Gods to restore the Glory of an Empire. It is AD 106 and the Roman Empire is in terrible decline. After the untimely death of the much-liked Emperor Trajan, the despotic Emperor Arruntius has bled the once powerful Rome to its knees. Badly fought wars, famine and plague are rife in all corners of the Empire, while the Emperor and his elite enjoy every excess and vice that the emptying coffers can afford. As herald to this age of degradation, Arruntius has destroyed large portions of the city of Rome to create the battleground for the bloodiest gladiator event ever staged. This is your chance to win glory for yourself in the arena of Rome in this rich mix of combat, adventure, classic history, culture and mythology.

As the chosen one you will be able to use a large variety of historical and mythical weaponry to take down the dizzying amount of opposition. There are also role-playing elements as you progress through the game you will have the opportunity to upgrade your armour and also improve your melee combat skills on your mission to become the Champion of the Gods.

4.0 out of 5 stars thrillin for a killin!, 13 Mar 2004
Gladiator sword of vengeance is a game for those who love to kill. you are a character named thrax who is the greatest gladiator of all time and that aint no lie he kicks ass!
In the game their are quite a few different enemies for thrax to fight against.enemies have different weapons including axes, swords and shields which get in the way of the blood.and there is alot of it.there are tons of gory deaths just like it states on the games case.on one gory sequence i chopped off a guys arms and wathed him fall to floor as blood squirted out of him.sick but fun.The fighting is amazing.you can be attacking one enemy and by holding L1 the target changes to another enemy which you will then attack and if then let go of L1 you go back to the enemy you were originally knocking the blood out of or breaking there bones if they are a skeleton.you can hit two to three people in one combo.three people if you are really good.
overall i definately recommend this game to others.this is a must buy must go on a killin spree game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gladiator - Sword of Vengeance (PS2), 16 Dec 2003
By John Groom (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
The Story of Gladiator starts in ancient Rome with the death of the Emperor Trajan at the hands of the Consular Arruntius in order to seize the throne for himself. You are cast in the role of Invictus Thrax, the greatest gladiator the city has ever known and charged with the task of destroying Arruntius.

Playing Gladiator is reminiscent of playing Golden Axe as you spend most of your time putting relentless hordes of enemies to the sword. The controls are fairly straight-forward; there are two standard attack buttons which can be used together for various combos, two buttons for targets selection, a magic button and a context-sensitive action button. You also have the ability to pull off Mortal Kombat type finishing moves and your attacks and weapons are upgraded as the game progresses.

The graphics except for the fluctuating frame-rate are good as are the sound and story, combining to make the game capture the feel of ancient Rome. The gory visuals and extreme violence makes this one for adults only and it's a bit mindless, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected, 19 Jan 2005
These game was totally differant to what i expected. This is for one major reason, on the back of the case it tells you nothing of what the game is like, and the name gladiator gives you the idea you are battling as a gladiator in a arena.

However the game does get better as you going along. This is not a top game, but is worth it if you have money to spend.
