5.0 out of 5 stars Bazooooooka, 3 Dec 2003
Worms 3D, the next milestone of the worms series, with an extra dimension! This is basically like the other worms games (with the exception of poor Worms Blast) but with more of everything; more weapons, more modes (campaign, single player, tutorial), more mayhem and an added dimension.
The new Campaign mode will have your worms doing missions, like getting a special crate after destroying the enemy, blowing up graves to find treasure and lots more.
As always, the maps are still totally randomly generated, but now you can choose certain options to define them, like the size of the land blocks and the number of objects in the map.
The only problem I have with it is that you tend not to actually kill worms before they fall in the water, but thats not so bad.
With the extra dimension, come more difficulties, the wind can now be sweeping across your shot moving it to the left or right. But, you are now able to have a top-down view from the blimp overhead, or from a first person perspective.

Overall, i give it 97%, you will never get bored of it, especially when you have friends round, the music is brilliant (Shake Your Coconuts by Junior Senior) and will be going round your head for days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worms 3D - The next dimension, 1 Nov 2003
I've been a member of the worms community for many, many years...

I focus tested Worms 3D for Team17 in April, and again in July. I thoroughly enjoyed it every time - it was a great game, even with the bugs. Now that it is released, I am happy to see that they have ironed a lot of the bugs out, making this one incredible game.

The sound and music are incredible, and done by Bjorn Lynne, who did the soundtracks for all the other worms games - so it's up to the same standard.

The graphics are well done and very sharp - and they also have a low usage of processing power, so a lower spec PC will be able to run it well. The blockyness of the terrain sometimes takes people a while to get used to - but that's the price to pay for fully destructable terrain.

The game has a lot of replay value, with an infinite number of randomly generated landscapes to make.

The main problem at the moment is online play - it is laggy and buggy. Team17 say they know what the causes of this are, and are working with Gamespy to iron out these - a service pack will be out shortly to fix these problems.

If you enjoy strategy or humour, and/or you liked any of the previous Worms games, then I recommend buying Worms 3D as soon as you can!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worms 3D, 29 Feb 2004

Worms was originally on the PC in 2D, now it makes its debut in 3D.

Story

I don't think there is one, its basically annihilate the opponent before they annihilate you.

Graphics

Randomly rendered 3D worlds mean you will never lay the same game twice.
Sometimes it has a few glitches (where worms hands get stuck to weapons) but they don't really spoil the game. It has a cartoony type feel to it, but looks good none the less.

Sound

DPL 2 supported, and a song on the soundtrack by Junior Senior.

Gameplay

This is where this game ticks, a great control scheme (even if you do have to keep the shoulder buttons pressed ALL the way down to aim properly) and loads to unlock and do. Very addictive as well.

Replay value

The random level generator is the best thing since buttered toast. Loads to unlock and do.

Overall

This should be a perfect 5, but because there are a few bugs that should have been sorted by the testing team (such as hardware memory errors and occasional collision detection problems) this scores lower. If you liked the original 2D PC versions, I guarntee you will like this.
