Product Description

GamesMaster Magazine

"An excellent translation to 3D. 83%."

Product Description

Continuing to capture the true essence of the game in Worms 3D teams of worms battle across bizarre randomly generated landscapes, or across finely crafted custom-designed levels utilising an arsenal of devastating weapons. The game play remains unchanged, featuring turn-based fighting and relying on the player to judge the trajectory and strength of their shots in order to inflict maximum damage on opponents. All the favourite weapons such as bazooka, grenade, dynamite, air strike and sheep are present including some new additional ones. Defensive tactics can also be employed as you choose to dig in with buildings, trenches, sandbags or fortifications, whilst buildings on the landscapes can also provide shelter against attacks.

Adapt your strategy to the weapons available, landscape and each new opponent you play. With a multitude of tactics available, coupled with the ever changing, randomly generated landscapes, no battle will ever be the same. Worms 3D is set in a more exciting and immersive game world than ever before, with the emphasis on great multi-player action and challenging single-player fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little lacking, 19 Jan 2004
By A Customer
Ok lets start with the score, I love worms ive owned every game ever released, so im a little biased towards the games anyway so if your not a huge fan you may want to knock off half maybe even a full star.

The game looks nice and is fun to play, and the muti-player is spot as all worms games have and hopefully will ever be, the controls are well thought out but i would imagine the pc version is a little easier to control but hey they work well and it's nice to beable to sit on the sofa and relax whilst playing.

Ok now a few bad points - the blimp camera is terrible it would be ok if u could zoom in but thats not a feature so it's very hard to pick off many targets which really do require this veiw to either lock on the weapon or if your trying to curl a rocket find the correct angle. the weapons are brilliant as always and look great in 3D but sadly you cannot control many of the weapons your team will start with, for instance the sticky bomb, however some of the weapons schemes do allow this which some may find ok but personally it drives me nuts that im not allowed to. another problem comes in the form of a 3d landscape, all digging tools (eg. blowtorch) have been removed because the game is played in 3rd not first person and would be impossible to see underground, another i find is you often get stuck on small invisible bits of the landscape which can waste valuable seconds especially in the missions.

Something which takes nothing from the game but would have definatly helped would be some form of level design tool, every random generated map ive played ( and thats alot ) has been made up of islands and if not islands 1 large section of land with no form of roof - making using the ninja rope almost impossible.

Overall it's an adverage game - but is still very good fun if you have a few mates round and want something light hearted and relaxing to play, any worms fan such as myself will enjoy the game but will probably feel let down by it - lets hope team17 sort out some of the issues mentioned above and build on many of the games strong points.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worms are back..., 22 Oct 2004
By A Customer
If you've ever liked any of the previous worms games, you'll probably like this. The worms look as funny and silly as ever as they fire enourmous weapons at each other across now-3D landscapes. Most of the weapons from previous games are here, such as the banana bomb, sheep dynamite, mine etc.

The game is similar in style to previous versions of worms, with strange landscapes, huge objects and plenty of highly destructive weapons. The game is great for multiplayer between people of all ages, and for those of you that want to play with lots of friends without having to buy new controllers, the fact that worms is turn-based means that you play multiplayer with plenty of others by simply passing the controller around.

The main disadvantages are that all the previous tunnelling weapons, such as the blow-torch, have been removed because you can't see underground. There is also no custom level design (there is a random generator but that's not as fun) and many of the weapons - particularly the grenades - aren't as easy to use as they used to be.

As if to try and make up for this though, there are a few new tools of destruction. Worms can now fly around on jetpacks and throw sticky bombs at worms behind walls. Gas canisters and blowpipes can be used to poison worms and weaken them over time, allowing you to hide until they succumb to the poison.

Overall, great for laughs and a great way to unwind with friends. It may be disappointing in few aspects, but it's still very fun to play - get ready for exploding sheep once again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant translation into 3D, 5 Nov 2003
I loved the original Worms and even better the sequel (and the 'upgrades' like Armageddon and World Party), and when I put the disc in the tray I thought, this is... different. Of course adding the extra dimension to the game means that the actual gameplay changes as much as the graphics. This, however, is not a bad thing but a very good thing. Should Worms 3 have been 2D, it could only have been almost exactly the same as Worms 2.

Instead, we have a very different, and very good game. I am glad that Worms has changed. If I wanted more 2D Worms I would have been perfectly happy playing No. 2 for the rest of my days. Instead, we have here an upgrade, an alternative, and a game that is so good in its own right that it would have done perfectly well without the Worms franchise holding it up.
