Product Description

Product Description

NARC is an in-depth third-person action/shooter videogame set against a stylised modern-day backdrop of the War on Drugs. Playing as dual characters Hitman and Max Force in the elite NARC squad, the player must rid the world of the powerful international K.R.A.K. drug cartel. Find them, bust them and/or kill them to bring justice to the action-packed, crime-ridden streets. In NARC, players have an arsenal of weapons to use as well as down-and-dirty hand-to-hand fighting skills. It's non-stop, action-packed drug-busting mayhem.

As Hitman and Max Force (the storyline drives which one you control in each level), you must rid the world of the K.R.A.K. organization's drug-infested corruption. Unique to NARC, "busting criminals" is the best way to increase your score and is critical to solving mission objectives. Being a cop in streets riddled with crime, you're appropriately loaded with powerful weapons including revolvers, a 100-shot submachine pistol, assault rifles, shotguns, grenade launchers, rocket launchers and a flamethrower. Fire on the criminals in standard third-person perspective or use a zoomed-in third-person view for a perfect "limb" shot! Bats, crowbars, knives, axes and other street weapons are also available.

1.0 out of 5 stars Anyone who buys this will feel a little narc'ed, 9 Jul 2005
By A Customer
The premise of this game appealed to me so I bought it to see if it was any good, unfortuneatly it isn't, the budget price was a clue, I bought it for £9.99 on it's release day.
The graphics are truly awful, they look like PS1 graphics on the Xbox here, they are unbelievably bad, and the game is extremely monotonous and boring, your character runs around a small city map trying to sell drugs, asking people if they want to get high, doing the most tedious of missions which have been done much better in other games, it's a terrible game, if you want a decent action game go for something like 'The Punisher'.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some Good Ideas, Poorly Executed, 20 Sep 2005
By Mr. A. Graham "andybsg1" (Essex, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This game is never going to rate as an X-Box classic, which is a real shame as it had a great licence behind it. I bought this game mainly for nostalgia's sake as the early 90's coin op of the same name claimed huge amounts of mine and my best mates pocket money.

Unfortunately, while this new version is VERY loosely based on this in terms of storyline, the actual game itself is completely remodelled with much of the over the top enemies from the original nowhere to be found. The 'flashers' who open their macs to reveal petrol bombs, the syringe throwing hookers... All gone.

That's not to say this game is all bad. The controls are responsive and there are some great touches such as the ability to bust drug dealers, only to use the drugs yourself! The idea of being a good or bad cop and getting busted back down to a normal street cop is pretty good and being able to gun down or arrest criminals works well.

The only problem is that there is not enough of this innovation with much of the gameplay getting repetitive very quickly. Throughout the game, you switch between two characters, even though there is almost no difference between them in terms of gameplay. The maps themselves are also very small with you continually visiting the same areas. The idea of dropping off evidence at the station is great... Apart from the fact you can never find it unless you're specifically sent there.

As you can see, the downpoints are numerous and the licence has let itself down a little. However, I would like to see a sequel as there are some great ideas here, they just needed a bit more work. All in all, this is not a great game even though there are some good points, just poorly executed.

The one real bonus though is that the original 90's version of the game is hidden away in here waiting to be found.
