5.0 out of 5 stars This is what I have been waiting for...., 2 Jul 2004
Saw the wonderful herman dune this week with just the description on the poster to tease me. Bought this CD there and have not been able to stop playing it since. Live they were amazing and after a few listens the cd touches in the same way. Imagine Pavement in all their quirky lo-fi glory with the emotion of Bonnie Prince Billy and a bit of rockin out in a Yo La Tengo style - but they're just my references, nothing really sounds like them - especially the lyrics- spinning out streams of images, sung in that sort of euro-english-americana twang. Endearing is how i'd describe Herman dune - the sort of cd that makes you want to hug it alot and make sure it has enough milk and cookies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting & gorgeous music/vocals from sweden's answer to B&S, 13 Mar 2004
By A Customer
The album starts with soft, beautiful music and gentle vocals, often tinged with a bittersweet edge. This style is reminiscent of Belle and Sebastian's quieter moments, yet Herman Dune feel much more mellow than their twee English counterpart. This album does have its quirky moments such in 'Red Blue Eyes', 'You Stepped on Sticky Fingers' or 'In August', which opens with 'You were talking to me; looking at a monkey'. These songs have a more upbeat approach and are when one does start to wonder if members Belle and Sebastian have founded a new group. Yet throughout these songs, there do exist hints of all not being right.

This album does have a number of darker moments but despite this, there is often an almost audible optimism among the subdued and regretful tone that comprises much of the album. Apart from of the sadness that it exudes, at times it can be uplifting, mainly as it links sadness with beauty and seems to have a view of the world, including all of its extremes, as in general being a beautiful thing.

The music in this album is often uncomplicated yet gorgeous and the vocals similarly have a haunting simplicity that can send shivers down your spine.
