Product Description

Product Description

Based on the award-winning Europa Universalis engine, Crown of the North is a real-time strategy game that takes place in the years between 1275 and 1340, at a time where nobility and the church held all power and Sweden was about to launch into its only civil war. Choose to be Norway, Sweden or Denmark, each of which has two different factions for you to play and plot to change the historical legacy of a region seldom explored. Develop your kingdom into an economic, political and military power, but be careful not to alienate the church, nobility peasants or the merchant class on your way to supremacy as you never know when you might need to join forces. To help you in your quest for supremacy you can recruit noble knights with their mighty castles, raise large hosts of spearmen to defend your realms, and ignore the papal ban on crossbows. Multi-player is available through a LAN or the Internet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing special, 7 Jun 2004
By A Customer
After hearing many good things about the paradox games such as Hearts of iron from my friends i was tempted by the price of Crown of the North ,a stand alone ad-on, to purchase it. I am extremly disapointed in the game. Firstly ,in my opinion, the image of the game is completly wrong. Loud colours, cartooney type graphics and a very styleised map portray a very different medival scandinavia to what i imaged the game would try and show. The game play is ,however, quite entertaining although the graphics do detract from it. I do feel that it would be worth saving up for a decent game rather than just spending on the cheap such as i did with this game.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not their best work, 28 Oct 2004
Crown of the North is essentially a translation of Svea Rike 3, a game originally only released in Swedish by Paradox Entertainment. It was released at about the same time as Europa Universalis (1), which was superior in many ways. Since that time, Paradox have released the classic Europa Universalis 2, Hearts of Iron and Victoria: An Empire under the Sun. Buy one of those, particularly EU2, available here for under a tenner, not Crown of the North.
