Product Description
Product Description
Uncommon Valour is a highly detailed war game recreating the military campaigns in the South Pacific theatre of Operations from May 1942 to 1943. The game accounts for individual ships and planes as well as the skills and abilities of the individual pilots and ships captains.

The game consists of a tutorial in which players learn the basic game functions. There are 18 scenarios of varying length that allow players to recreate specific battles and campaigns using the historically available resources, or hypothetical scenarios that allow war gamers to determine the outcome of the World War II battles.

The game recreates for players the challenges faced by the historical commanders in the theatre, in that they never have sufficient resources available to achieve the objectives, and that ultimately they rely on the skills ability and bravery (uncommon valour) of their frontline soldiers, sailors and airmen.

Players must create task forces made up of different mixtures of ship/aircraft types depending on the mission, such as Sea Combat, Bombardment and Amphibious Assault, as well as the mundane re-supply missions. The player must then coordinate these forces to attack and defend the various base locations scattered across the vast expanse of the South Atlantic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Strategy - Well Recommended, 19 Jun 2003
By A Customer
For anyone who enjoys strategy games this game ranks there with the best of them. Ever since watching Tora, Tora, Tora!!! and The Battle of Midway as a kid I've waited for a game that would give me control over Carrier Battle Groups, Battleships, Cruisers and Destroyers, and finally its here. Pearl Harbour and Midway aren't actually battles you can fight in the game, but fear not there's plenty more!

The games revolves around the action in the Solomons and Coral Sea from early '42 to late '43 with all of the Naval, Air and Land action covered from individual ships to battalions of infantry and squadrons of planes. Players form task forces from their available ships to a maximum of 25 ships per task force with which to accomplish goals such as taking an island which could require a carrier TF for cover, bombardment TF to soften up the defenses, mine sweepers to clear the path and a transport TF to land the troops. If you prefer you can send the grunts over land to launch an attack should your have had you TF's blown away and resting at the bottom of the Pacific. Of course once there troops need supplies, ships and planes need fuel and defenses need to be built, all of which must be provided by the player in order to win.

Plenty of scenarios are included from short 10 day engagements to learn the system to a full May '42 - August '43 campaign. Game play is quick and easy to learn though a thorough read of the CD manual is required to fully understand all elements.

Not a game for people who want none stop action but if you've ever enjoyed a game from Gary Gigsby of Steel Panthers fame the
