Amplitude is a fast-paced rhyth/action game. It is the sequel to Frequency. Amplitude is an extremely enjoyable game which is very hard to put down and stop playing. Amplitude is about blasting note capsules on a music track. If you hit every note on the two-bar phrase then the track will play on its own for a while. You will have to move quickly from track-to-track to keep your streak up. By having a streak going you get score multipliers. You can get up to a x8 multiplier. If you miss too many notes then your energy will go down. Once your energy is all down... well, no prizes for guessing what happens! Anyway, enough about the concept of the game, now lets talk about the actual fun of it.The game is extremely addictive and past-paced. You will need to put alot of concentration into it. I would recommend taking a break every now and then as your fingers can tire. There are twenty five songs to play through, which lie in five different arenas. From artists ranging from Pink to Slipknot there is something to suit just about everyone. To play the game you have to have everything suiting. You will need to find a certain place to sit, position your hands on the controller etc. DO NOT attempt to talk to other people while playing as you will seriously mess it up. The only reason I cant give the game five stars is this: the longetivity. The game can be completed on mellow in less than an hour, normal about two, brutal three and insane about a week. Insane is very, very hard. The option to remix songs adds SOME longetivity, but, not enough to satisfy all. I have now completed all of the difficultys. Online play adds a great element to the game. There is a multiplayer moe too, but, it is just isn't as fun as playing online. The problem with multiplayer is the camera angle. On the edge tracks you will need to turn your head at a 45 degree angle to get it straight! Online though, the camera is more or less the same as in Solo mode. Online, there is a rankings chart to show your position among the other competitors. When you first begin to play online you will be ranked NEW but if you play 10 or so games you will finally get a ranking. You can upload remixes online for other FreQs to download and play. Overall, Amplitude is a great purchase for anyone who owns a PS2. It will keep you entertained for a very long time.

Finger Twitching Good!, 17 Dec 2003
Amplitude, the sequel to Frequency, is possibly the best non japanese rhythm acton game ever made. A bold statement, but its true! Taking around 25-30 songs from all different types of music, each song is split into different loops (drums, bass, guitar, vocals, keyboards, FX etc) and are laid out in a giant psychadelic road. You must then tape out say the drum loop, the quickly switch roads to start on the say the bassline. If you get the loop right, it charges up for a few song bars and you'll move onto the next instrument. If your good, you'll get the whole song playing and feel very satisfied! On top of unlocking new songs to play, theres the remix mode which gives you the instruments from all the songs in the game for you to remix them however you see fit! Its a lovely experience to produce your own remix. Also you can listen to the songs normally on Jukebox mode. While a little more complex than Frequency and the new-ness of the gameplay doesnt hit so hard if you have the original, Amplitude is just as good. Top notch gaming!

Basically this Frequency with bells on, which is no bad thing as Frequency was fantastic. The tunnel has gone (you kind of roll over the top of a barrell) and there are minor tweaks in gameplay regarding multiplier deployment. I bought this a couple of months back on import and it was on all the time. The graphics are a vast improvement, and there is a much more varied selection of songs. The tracks, on first impression, appear to be more difficult but the sensitivity has been toned down to keep the level just right. As you're probably expecting, there is a but. 2 months on and it is Frequency back in the PS2. More addictive and fun IMHO. I would recommend Amplitude to Freq-afficianados and Frequency to everyone else!
