1.0 out of 5 stars Poor for video capture, 22 May 2005
By Peachy (Scotland) - See all my reviews
This product does not include a tv tuner, it's sole purpose is to capture video signal.

It is therefore disappointing that this box fails to do that properly.

The box is easy to set up, and the software and hardware included are fine - although no scart sockets, there is s-video and rgb.

Copying from clean sources, ie a sky+ box seem ok, copying from all other sources tends to be problematic, or rather unusable.

Whenever a source is used that contains a change in signal strength this product struggles to convert the signal, and there is a good chance that the results are either flickering colours, or worse (and more commonly) a heavy blue tinted picture.

What can cause a change in signal - experiments showed that all below caused issues:
    video tracking problems,
    video tape wobbles,
program going to adverts (on tv source or video source)
source being paused, or fast-forwarded - rewound
change of camera shot - in home recorded and bought video
    pausing video camera

This does not happen all the time and repeated attempts to capture the same source usable material could be copied.

However you could not capture any source unattended.

Ultimately I returned the dvd express.

1.0 out of 5 stars Simply does not work, 26 Feb 2006
I had hoped to convert my old video tapes to DVD but the results were unreliable and unpredictable to say the least. The audio is out of sync with the video on many of the captured files and the Ulead software that comes with the product is absolutely awful. During one of its frequent crashes it wiped out my hard disk. I ended up re-formating and re-installing windows. If you dream of converting those old tapes to DVD then look else where.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality Video Tape Copies, 3 May 2006
By Eric Trinder (Brierley Hill, West Midlands United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
Like a lot of other video enthusiasts I have made a lot of VHS/Betamax home movies over the years and wished to save these precious memories onto DVD. I have had a small measure of success with an ATI All in Wonder card but have not been impressed with the results.
The DVD Express I have found to give very good quality results, surpassing my old card. The abilty to adjust hue/saturation etc in real time coupled with the use of svhs input gives me a quality equal to and sometimes surpassing the original.
Easy to set up, good value.
