I've found this an excellent french package. The presentation is very slick (if a bit slow), there are lots of different exercises covering a large amount of content.

The voice recognition is good (but not perfect), and the supplied headset is ok. Having to say the answer to some of the exercises is fun.

I think a complete beginner would have trouble but I only know a little from school and had no trouble getting going. The progress tracking is impressive and has motivated me to learn more.

Since when I discovered this wonderful sofware, lots of foreign languages university students have bought it and enjoyed it. Let me give a piece of advice to those who haven't got some computer practice. It's quite easy to use, and you simply have to click on the top left corner of the main page to change within the three levels of learning mode. Even the grammar explanations are easy, and the animated drawings make learning fun. Each page have a red flag. By clicking on it, you can have the translations of the written texts into your chosen language. For example, when you start listening to a dialogue, just click on the red flag and the page will be divided into two sections, i.e. on the left side you have the translations and on the right side the original text.
I'll keep saying this software is a piece of art. Just follow the animated instructions and you'll be one of its fan, for sure.

The CD provides 3 modes of learning. I found that after I had selected one, the only way to select a different one was to unistall the programme, and start again!!
The user's manual lists levels starting from complete beginner (which I wanted since it was recommended by the manual), but this did not exist on the CD. I continued trying, but was disadvantaged, since it needed significant French grammar and vocabulary to start.
It was difficult to use too, few of the buttons being intuitive, and not easy to find a simple subject to tackle.
