Product Description

Amazon.co.uk review

Hand Over Your Loved Ones is more of the same from Wheatus--underdog rock bristling with sharp hooks, wry, knowing lyrics and a degree of wit and irony that lesser lights like Sum 41 and Blink 182 would die for--but edgier than their eponymous debut. The tone is set by the infectious, self-effacing opening track "American in Amsterdam", wherein Brendan B Brown and cohorts romp around the Dutch city before being beaten up by "pissed, drunk and raging" English football hooligans. Likewise, "Anyway" revisits the terminal dorkdom of "Teenage Dirtbag2" ("I'm a jerk and a weirdo, nothing but a zero") while "Lemonade" finds a cuckolded Brown begging his former lover to level with him: "Just tell me if his dick was bigger than mine". Yet for all the lewdness and levity, Wheatus have palpably grown up: "Fair Weather Friend" and "Randall" both take pot shots at the contradictions and hypocrisies of fame, and display an anger and belligerence that was utterly absent two years ago, while "Freak On" is the bizarre sound of the worm turning into a (rather nonplussed) babe magnet. Darker and (marginally) more troubled they may be, then, but Wheatus remain the kings of hook-laden, catchy, slyly entertaining nerd-pop. --Ian Gittins

CD Description

After the success of their self titled debut album and single 'Teenage Dirtbag', Wheatus release their second album 'Hand Over Your Loved Ones'. Recorded in lead singer/songwriterBrendan B. Brown's basement and taking inspiration from the9/11 terror attacks, the album is more somber in tone than the pop-rock sound that featured on previous recordings. Also included is the single 'American In Amsterdam'.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this album!, 20 Aug 2003
By RM87 (London, England) - See all my reviews
Just when I thought Wheatus couldn't get any better.... Hand Over Your Loved Ones comes along. Hand Over Your Loved Ones is full of amazing harmonies- " Randall" and " Fairweather Friend" are good examples. Full of catchy lyrics, songs full of different styles of music, and funky samples. With the addition of a keyboard player (Shannon Harris), the songs sound fantastic- Freak On is an example of great keyboarding!
The songs that stand out for me are "Lemonade", " Freak On", " Randall" and " Dynomite satchel of pain". Dynomite is full of humour!

If you buy this album, you won't be disapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hand Over Your Reddies 4 a Great Album!, 14 Sep 2003

(REAL NAME)
hi there being a huge fan Brendan Brown and the gang only gets more satisfying after hearing this great cd because not only have Wheatus added to there great self-titled debut album but they have somehow in my opinion made it better!!!
on the new album called "HAND OVER YOUR LOVED ONES" u have instantly catchy songs like AMERICAN IN AMSTERDAM and FREAK ON and the hard hitting guitar hyped THE DECK. Wheatus are out to prove the media wrong about thinking these guys are one-hit wonders! if Brendan keeps writing songs of this quality im sure the band will soon hit the top ten in the u.k charts again very soon indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, 26 Aug 2003
Wheatus really shouldn't be judged on their debut album, as 'Hand Over Your loved Ones' is superior to it in every way.

Since the release of their debut in 2001, the band has lost Phil Jimenez and Rich Liegey, but gained Mike McCabe, Shannon Harris, Kathryn Froggatt and Liz Brown, leading to an altogether better sound. The music has matured into something that will be loved by an audience of all ages.

Buy this album and you won't be disappointed... so long as you stop the CD before it reaches song number 10 - the rather bizarre 'Dynomite Satchel of Pain'.
