I concur with the previous review. This is an excellent bargain, with the two overtures & serenades coming off especially well. The March goes on a bit too long for my liking, but that's down to the composer, not the performers. The acoustic is a little dry (the Mosfilm studios). Older Russian recordings used to have more reverberance, and that brings me to my one small reservation. The Chopin arrangements are the first version, to which Glazounov later added one movement. Later still, he made a much longer set of orchestrations, with someone called Keller, lasting about 45 minutes. It used to be on an old EMI/Melodiya LP, long deleted. The new recording here is good, but I compared it to Svetlanov on BMG (1990), which is just that bit more opulant and full-blooded, both in terms of recording and interpretation. However, for the budget price, this CD is still very good.

Another little jewel by Glazunov. The Chopiniana orchestrations are great, my only concern is that there is a number missing!. The other pieces are excellent, full of rich tone colours with a nice interpetation. As always, Naxos's prices are a plus.
