4.0 out of 5 stars summers here, 10 Jul 2003
Summer heat is an extremely simple game to play. Rather than having to guess or predict where an attacking spike is going to land, a gaint arrow appears indicating exactly where to stand to dig the ball, daddio. This means you have to do is watch the opponents are doing just wait for the sign from God to show you where to stand. It sounds so easy, but to win a game takes patience, cunning and nerves of steel as the Al or multiplayer opponents are equally adept at defending. So when you eventually hit a successful spike you really feel like the points been earned and it has a similar quality to virtua tennis, as there's never a cheap pont. It may be vacuous, lightweight and exploitative, but it'll have you screaming at the telly and physically threatening teammates and opponents. So this is defitnitely a game to get.

3.0 out of 5 stars A trip to the beach, in your living room., 1 Sep 2003

(REAL NAME)
In the wake of the reputation that Xbox's pnumatically chested Dead Or Alive Beach Volleyball left behind it's kind of hard to take the idea of Summer Heat Beach Volleyball seriously. The addition of sexy babes and chunky men all leads to a largely irrelevent game, right?
Not in this case. Sure it's not full on body flesh jiggling like we saw in DOA BV, it's actully a good crack at making a game out of a sport that hasn't really taken root as a videogame; at least, not to the extent of other sports.
The reason it is a pleasure to play lies in the control system. Almost every action can be performed by X. Sounds like every move is the same with one button, but it depends on when the ball is it, how long you hold it down for etc. Another part of why it's great to play lies in whether you take a shot for yourself, or leave it for your partner. But its not a case of hoping they intercept the ball if you dont, you actully control your partner at the same time, not in actions, but in movement.
Wherever you run your partner will run the space left behind by you. You run right, they run left, you run up and right, they run down and left. Simple, but effective.
All the moves are there. Blocking, spiking, passing. The flaws of the game are sometimes it turns less like a volleyball agmes, and more into a reflex tester.

A nice game overall with a few flaws, but gets slightly boring. Nevertheless, it'll keep you coming back. 7/10
