4.0 out of 5 stars Who's That Jumpin' Out The Sky?, 1 Oct 2003
By WCW Fan (Wales) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Although Rey Mysterio hasn't been in WWE for too long, there was still plenty of resources available to tell his story in full (thanks to the use of old WCW footage). This profile takes us back to those WCW days and Rey's humble beginnings in the wrestling business, and of course, takes us up to his debut year in WWE.

Throughout highlights of his career, Rey offers his own thoughts on a variety of subjects, such as the importance of his family and what the luchador mask means to him. We also get a tour of Rey's house in California and learn where the moves "619" and "West Coast Pop" came from.

However, two rather large problems with this DVD is the fact that Rey's knee injury (which is focused on at the beginning) is treated like it really occurred at the hands of A-Train (then Albert). Rey is shown in a hospital discussing his recovery and can then be heard vowing revenge on the bald bozo, when in reality, the injury occurred due to years of wear and tear in the ring.

Another irritating fault is the fact that Rey's face is constantly distorted whenever he has his mask removed, even though anyone who watched WCW from 1999-2001 (and anyone who reads independent wrestling mags) would have seen his face without the mask on countless occassions (incidentally, footage from WCW where he was unmasked has not been included on this tape/DVD).

Fortunately, the extras pack a real punch. There's some stunning Cruiserweight matches from WCW included, as well as his more recent WWE clashes, a Confidential piece and even some hidden extras (Just press Left on your control whenever you select any of his WCW matches to get different WWE debut promo videos).

Rey's first WWE DVD/VHS could have been allot better, but there's still enough entertainment here for it to be worthy of its price tag. Mysterio's old WCW fans and his new WWE fans will be impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The life of the human highlight-reel, 14 July 2003
Whos that jumpin out the sky? R..E...Y Mysterio.

This DVD charts Rey Mysterio's intrest in wrestling from when he was a young age to his WCW debute through to his attempt to capture cruiserweight gold at wrestlemania X9 against Matt Hardy version 1.0. Rey not only talks about his wrestling but also takes the audience back to where it began the ring he trained in with his Uncle Rey Mysterio the first Arena that he wrestled in and recalls some memories including when he saw his uncle unmask. The DVD comes with 10 bonus matches including his debute at the great American bash in 1996 against Dean Malenko, his 1st cruiserweight championship win against Malenko, The mask vs Tittle match against Eddie Guerrero at Haloween Havoc in 1997, when he finnaly made his long awaited WWE debute on smackdown (23.7.2002) and in one of the best matches of 2002 when he faced Kurt Angle at summerslam. There is also a special confidential interview. He also takes the time to talk about his leg injury he sustained at the end of 2002 after a vicious atack from the A-Train. This is defintly worth watching Rey Mysterio is amazing and its hard to believe all the things he can do in the ring and all of his accomplishments from when he started wrestling at the young age of 14 to the present day. The human highlight-reel who can fight any superstar in wrestling no matter what size they are is one of the main reason to watch WWE Smackdown everyweekand this DVD shows just how good that he is.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great DVD, 28 Mar 2004
This DVD includes 188 minutes of amazing footage of Rey Mysterio, including segments on his tattoos, home, Mexico, and much more. 10 of the additional DVD extras include some of the best matches Rey has ever had (both from WCW and WWE).
This is a DVD which I could watch again and again - it's full of variety and doesn't just focus on his wrestling career.
It's an amazing DVD based on the no.1 cruiserweight in the WWE today.

4.0 out of 5 stars The nicest man in the WWE, unless your name is Albert.
The coolest and most exciting wrestler in the WWE today, and after watching this, probably the nicest and most down to earth with it. Read more
