DVD Description

In Utah, USA, young Ken McLaughlin (Roddy McDowell) struggles to stay out of trouble and, more importantly, to please his father. To try to teach him some responsibility, Ken’s frustrated father, Rob (Preston Foster) allows him to choose a foal to raise, but is somewhat disturbed by his choice. Ken has chosen the foal of a stormy mare, and his father is not convinced Ken will be able to handle her. Ken however, is determined to prove himself and sets out to train his affectionately named foal, Flicka. Initially, Flicka seems determined to prove Rob’s point and fiercely resists all Ken’s efforts. However, persistence and love win the day, and Flicka grows up to be a magnificent animal and friend to Ken. Through good and bad times, illness and adventure, the two friends prosper.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Friend Flicka, 2 Jan 2004

(REAL NAME)
An enchanting story for anyone who has a love of horses.
A bond that developes between a boy and a new born foal, boy and horse grow together as they face different situations that build trust & friendship between them. The last time I watched this film on TV I must have been about 13 years old, it touched my heart strings & is definately something that all age groups can relate to.
The scenery, family bonds, Wild rogue horse 'Thunderhead' stallion, who is regularly renowned for robbing the locals of their mares which is how Flicka came into the world. It will capture imagination, feelings of love, happiness & sad moments but will leave the viewer captivated. The original TV viewing had two continuations of this wonderful story, 'Thunderhead' & 'Green Grass of Wyoming', as yet I have never seen these out as DVD or Videos which is a terrible shame, none the less is great family viewing, a bit cheesy in places great family viewing, I highly recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with this one., 9 May 2005
By A Customer
The picture and sound quality were both very poor. However we could have tolerated that if it had been a decent tale. It was boring with no discernible story line and a cut off sort of ending. The boy never even managed to mount the horse despite the story supposedly being about his taming of it. Oh...and there were lots or very screechy, irritating violin sections in the score. I had promised the children what I had thought would be an old fashioned treat. It was a huge disappointment.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very nice film. , 12 Aug 2007
This is a very nice horse film. It is a story about a boy and his horse. Who cares if the quality isn't great? You can't expect it to be perfect. After all it was made in 1943! I must admit it was quite hard to understand what they were saying at first but on second veiwing it was much better. The basic story - Ken McLaughlin gets a misbehaved foal named Flicka and tries to tame her. Flicka becomes ill and Ken's father orders her to be put down. Can Ken save his horse?

Very nice for Flicka fans. There are stunning shots of horses galloping and rearing. Overall a great family film. 4 out of 5. The new Flicka film was very good too.
