A Great Improvement, That is Very True To The Show., 5 Jul 2003
At a first glance the game seems a promising improvement from the previous Gameboy Colour version of Buffy. The Game is set in The 4th Season The gameplay is straight forward, Jump, Punch, Kick and Crouch. But unlike its predecessor, it features an exciting weapon system, using weapons from the show which can be combined, i was pleased to see The Glove of Myhnegon. There are 16 levels involving a little puzzle work mostly your a fighting your way through levels and rescuing the occasional hostage and pressing switches here and there. One piece of advice play the game on Normal or Hard, i completed the game in one day on the easy setting which is stupidly easy. Sounds ok, probably cost it that last star because of sounds. The music is etchy and doesn't have any resemblance to Buffy, it would have been nicer to have the theme music playing at the beginning. Although when she defeats the Gentleman, they play her scream that was used in the episodes "Hush". The Scubas meetings are good with the usual witty dialogue flying between the characters, and you get actual still images from the Show, although they are rather repetitive, still a nice touch. The Graphics are truly amazing for Gameboy advance, you can easily tell she's buffy and although the Vamps could have done with slightly more detail, they are also good. I was impressed by the way, when Buffy runs her whole body seems to move with her rather then just her legs; same for climbing and jumping, etc. The game is quite true to the show, Riley shows a helping hand on levels, and the mythology with the game go well. You also have to fight Adam. The only thing that was slightly less described was the appearance of the Gentleman, it was good to see them again, but not a lot of reasons why we saw them. Overall this game is really a must have for Buffy fans and could impress non fans as well, but i'm guessing mostly Buffy fans will be purchasing this.
