Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The Un-Calculated Some, the debut from three-piece Un-cut, is a classy hark-back to the golden age of acid jazz. Opening track and lead single "Midnight" has all the soul power of a Galliano live show but with a thick drum & bass backbone and horn breaks for extra oomph in the chorus. "Skin II Skin" has much of the same energy but is carried along by a northern soul groove rather than an all-powering drum loop. Aside from drum & bass party tunes, there's a host of downtempo vocal songs like the second single "Falling". However, like a lot of the album this sounds fresh and uplifting but not necessarily different or original. The Un-Calculated Some will not win awards for ingenuity or pushing back the boundaries, but that doesn't seem to be its purpose. Un-cut are about good, honest party tunes that could delight anyone on a balmy summer's evening. --David Trueman

5.0 out of 5 stars Un-Cut fuse together a brilliant album, 10 Nov 2003
With a fusion of styles mixed together to suit any musical taste going, Un-Cut's debut album is by far one of the classics of this year.
Styles on this album are meshed together superbly with Jenna G's vocals gliding effortlessly over 11 stunning tracks. Everything from drum n bass and r n b through to funk, jazz and reggea is represented.
Standout tracks include the lead single 'Midnight', a superb example to the current state of drum n bass - harking back to vocals and real instruments, 'Fallin', a fantastic r n b track that sounds very similar to a certain Lauren Hill, and the fantastic ballad 'Loveless' which should strike a chord with even the most stone of hearts.
Whilst not introducing anything new, 'The Un-Calculated Some' is a homage to everything that has shaped and influenced dance music, and should work well in any CD collection. Not strictly dance, but not strictly downbeat either, 'The Un-Calculated Some' treads a line that most dance albums have failed in the past - a good, solid dance influenced album that will work well wherever it is played.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this album now!, 5 Jul 2003
By A Customer
This album is without doubt the best album I’ve heard this year.
It transcends so many different genre's, mixing; drum and bass, r'n'b, soul, funk, jazz. It’s unbelievably fresh and unique style means you simply cannot get bored of listening to this album. There something for everyone in this album, yet it gels so well!
‘Midnight’ is an exceptionally funky track to start with, but my favourite has to be summery yet soulful 'fallin'.

FANTASTIC!!!

Its a shame that un-cut seem to have disbanded. And the only thing left of them is the distant memory of the drun & bass remix of Midnight and this album. And what an album it is. This is one of those albums which can be played from begining to end and you'll find you won't want to skip any of the tracks.
