Amazon.co.uk Review
If you have a hearty appetite for fiery explosions, heavy ordnance and nonsensical mayhem, Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever is just for you. This mindless action flick is so wrong-headed that even its ungainly title is inaccurate: as expert assassins on the fringes of government intelligence, FBI agent Ecks (Antonio Banderas) and Defence Intelligence agent Sever (Lucy Liu) aren't battling each other at all. Instead, he's trying to find his missing ex-wife (the stunning but expressionless Talisa Soto) and young son, while she's pursuing an agency turncoat (Gregg Henry) who's stolen the ultimate micro-technology for clandestine killing. United against a common enemy, Ecks and Sever lay waste to half of Vancouver (the film's budget-conscious location), and it all makes as much sense as meatballs on a vegetarian menu. Banderas and Liu look fabulous as corpses pile up around them, but Thai action director Kaos (aka Wych Kaosayananda) must have confused his nickname with the incomprehensible plot of his movie. --Jeff Shannon

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable fluff..., 24 Mar 2006
By Mr. Jd Ware "wolvie-ware" (London) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I shouldn't have enjoyed this film.

Let's list the bad points:
Laughably unoriginal plot about a kidnapped son, and a retired FBI agent brought back into the service to find him.
Diabolical dialogue.
Outrageous plot devices, and major continuity flaws.
Dull, unispired kung fu combat scenes.
Average acting.
If you can understand anything Antonio Bandera's mumbles, please let me know...

But let's get to the good points:
Guns, explosions, lots of guns, more explosions...an even bigger explosion, one huge MF gun, and even more explosions.

And I just sat there with a stupid big grin on my face while the fireworks went off onscreen, some huge gunfights exploded around me, and some short, but pretty nifty car chases.

An incredibly bad film that I loved. Leave your brain at the door, and enjoy this too...!

3.0 out of 5 stars ACTION PACKED..WELL...ACTION FILM !! !! !! !! !!, 25 Mar 2006

Ballistic:Ecks vs Sever, besides from its ratherstrange title, is one of the best action films of its year (in my opinion).
Lucy Lui and Antonio Banderas play great and very appropriate parts in this film. Along side the cool soundtrack and the intense action scenes this film is one of the best non stop action films there is.
The story for this film is nothig we havent seen before. An ex FBI agent with a presumed dead wife has been called from retirement to fight a super assassin type woman and a guy who plans to kill lots of people with a microscopic robot (that he plans to release upon the world). So this is obviously nothing spectacular in terms of a script or story line. And many scenes are over the top in terms of bullet dodging and exploding cars which seem to fly for no reason. And on the terms of explosions, this has lots, probably the most ive ever seen in a film.
And if you like this sort of thing, youll probably see this to be a film adaptation of a typical shooting game for a Playstation. As i wouldnt be surprised if thats where they got most of the ideas.
There are a couple of car/bike chases too, not brilliant but there is plently of shooting and of course explosions to acompany it.
If you buy this film then you must like action films and preferably be a gaming mad person under the age of 15, other wise rent it first and see what you think.

2.0 out of 5 stars too much style..., 22 Mar 2004
By Lpl Mcguirk "l_mcguirk" (Newcastle, UK) - See all my reviews

OK, this move does look good BUT the script is terrible and the story and editing and all over the place. Kidnapped children, bio-technology, computer gadgetry, reluctant heros and deadly but beautiful assassin all converge in a stylised mess full of fights, car chases and explosions. It's also a love story...

The end of the movie takes place in a rail yead and I just couldn't care, I'm a fan of Antonia but in this he's just taking the money and running away.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lame!
This is outstandingly bad! I've given it two stars for a couple of decent action sequences, but largely it's poor beyond belief. Avoid.

Ballistic wants so much to be Matrix that it hurts. Sadly the creators had neither the talent, the creative imagination nor the budget to rival the Wachowskis' finest. Read more

I was very surprised by this movie actually. I rented it unsure of what to expect, I hadn't heard of it but by starring Antonio Bandreas and Lucy Lui it couldn't be all bad. Read more
