Amazon.co.uk Review
With the original add-on pack to Allied Assault being one of the most successful ever, it was perhaps inevitable that another would be along soon after. It's arrived in the form of Breakthrough, which adds plenty to one of the PC's favourite first-person shooters. The pack moves the action to North Africa and Italy, across 11 new single-player and nine multi-player levels. As before, these environments are realised well, and make differing demands on the player. Plenty of additional weaponry certainly helps in that department.

The single-player missions are a bit of a mixed bag, with some standout campaigns set beside a few that are a little more run-of-the-mill. Yet they'll still be happily lapped up by anyone who's worked their way through what's gone before, and the good news is that Breakthrough will last you a good bit longer than the previous expansion pack. Don't expect anything that breaks the mould, though. On the multi-player side, the best addition is the new liberation mode. The idea is that you must rescue players as part of the ongoing battle, and it's really good fun to play.

Breakthrough is a good and welcome expansion to a game that's still an office favourite. It's got a few niggles, but it genuinely expands upon the original game and delivers a healthy dose of added entertainment for Allied Assault's many fans. --Simon Brew

Product Description
Medal of Honor Allied Assault Breakthrough is an expansion pack for first-person WWII shooter, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, which takes players from the sands of North Africa to the heart of Italy in the struggle to defeat the Third Reich. The expansion pack sees you take the role of US Army Sergeant John Baker and join the battle at Kasserine Pass in North Africa, race to capture Messina in Sicily, and finally repel the German army at the historic battle of Monte Battaglia in the heart of Italy. Armed with a new arsenal of weapons, players will fight alone and with squad mates as they rush to stop the Axis powers.

The multi-player game has been enhanced with the addition of Liberation Mode. In this mode defeated players must be rescued by surviving team mates to continue the fight. In addition, players can drive tanks, artillery spotters can call in artillery strikes, and minesweepers can lie down and defuse mines. Players can also choose from American, British, Italian, and German skins in all multi-player modes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better graphics, new weapons and still great playability, 27 Sep 2003
The sandstorm start in the Kasserine Pass is athmospheric, there's tanks, trenches and more detail than before. I don't do multi-player on this game as there are too many cheats out there. The single player is involving, challenging and most of all fun. When you absolutely, positively, have to have a first person shoot 'em up accept no substitute MOH is still the canines whatsits

3.0 out of 5 stars More of the same, 9 Oct 2003
Welp, here it is, the second expansion for MOHAA, an absolute blinder of a game and no mistake.

What is a mistake is the number of annoyances from the original game that still haven't been rectified - surprisingly bulletproof Germans for one, shooting a Nazi in the throat and then having him shake it off and return fire gets very irritating after the first couple hundred times, my other pet hate is having to reload a gun before you can hit someone with it - the one time you'd actually NEED to resort to brute force and it won't let you.

Now having said that, the new maps are pretty good, there's a decent variety of them and they're by and large good fun (except for the bulletproof nazis of course), but there isn't anything really new here, there's the usual sneaky sneaky missions, the on-rails machine gun missions and a couple of the old 'protect the idiots determined to get themselves killed' missions.

As has been mentioned, it's a lot tougher than the original, particularly in terms of ammunition - dead Nazis seem suspiciously void of any magazines or anything you can loot and even on medium difficulty you'll find yourself having to get creative when it comes to taking out the enemy as you'll have precious little besides harsh language to throw at them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, 29 Sep 2003

Some of the new features are great - tanks, trucks, the new Italian weapons etc, but there's nothing really new to the game. The first mission (sandstorm) is very tense - it's easy to get disorientated in the sand, and suddenly an equally lost Italian will jump out from behind a burning truck and peg you.

The second mission involves you raiding a boat for documents, this is also good fun. One thing I have noticed is that you must conserve your ammo much more carefully than either MOHAA or Spearhead. Every time I got the chance I would rather club an enemy to death just to save bullets. Otherwise you find yourself running out easily...

More of the same, really, nothing particularly new in a groundbreaking way, but that's not a bad thing.

MP is good also, especially the new battle mode. Hoping to find a server that supports tanks soon, then I'll really have some fun!

If you have MOHAA and Spearhead, you might as well have this too.
